I haven't used that particular excelon sub, but I did use the one from maybe 2 years ago with the whole cast iron frame and that sub was pretty great. I think this is pretty much the same only it has a flat cone

there is a review of this sub in 1 of those car audio mags,It said this sub was a beast

8.5mm of xmax? very low displacement, how can it get loud without displacement?

I ended up with this woofer yesterday. I fried my XW1222D so we threw this in to see how it would sound. The box is 1.3^ sealed and we were pretty amazed how it sounded in a smaller enclosure. I was surprised that I could hear a noticeable difference at a higher volume. We will see how this woofer stands up. I am pushing it with an X1R at ohm so it's getting plenty of power.
