Kenwood DDX812 Installation Questions -- '02 Honda Accord

Hi Everyone. I just got my new Kenwood DDX812 and wanted some help verifying a few connections/questions if possible. I have a 2002 honda accord coupe. Any help is appreciated:

1. The parking sensor wire (lt. Grn.) needs to receive a ground in order for the DVD to work, correct?

2. The remote sensor wire (lt. Blue/yellow) can just be taped off until needed?

3. The mute wire (brown) can be left disconnected since the radio has built-in Bluetooth I plan on using?

4. I connect the dimmer wire (orange/white) from the kenwood to my harness's dimmer (orange/white) wire and can leave the harness's illumination wire (orange) unused?

5. What is the difference between the Kenwood's Power Control wire (blue) and it's External Amplifier Control wire (pink/black)?

6. Can I connect the Kenwood's Reverse Sensor wire (purple/white) now to ease camera installation later even if I don't have a camera yet? Where is the reverse wire on the Hondas and what color whould I look for?

Thanks so much for your time and any help you can give. I can't wait to get this installed!

Yes the parking break wire must be connected by law, you can bypass it but i wont tell you how.

Forgot about the mute and remote sensor

The solid blue is power antenna, you dont wanna use that or your amps will turn off then you change from am/fm, honestly ive seen that other remote wire your talking about, i have no idea what its for i just tape them up and use the standard blue and white in the radio harness. (other amp turn on might be incase you using more than 3 amps so you dont have to use a relay.)

And you can hook up you reverse wire, just everytime you pop it in reverse it will show up on the rear camera screen and say no input, but it wont harm anything

Thanks Fiercetimbo17!

I read about the parking brake wire and of course I'll connect it! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Great news about everything else. I really appreciate the help. I've been out of car audio for about 10 yrs but recently got the itch. Found the DDX812 and couldn't resist! I plan on connecting the antenna wire since it's in my harness, but I don't have a power antenna. Thanks for the 411 on the amp power wires. I figured the "extra one" might be for extra amps and stuff. The 812 also has the 2 relay outputs I might play with, but I have to find a good use for them first! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I think I found the correct reverse wire to use:

Reverse Light green/black + driver side fuse box

With all this info I think I'm ready to solder my harness for an early morning install tomorrow! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/clap.gif.178cba2c538c68e720c727fcb024b19c.gif I just need to figure out which pieces of the install kit I need for the best install now!

I appreciate all the help indeed. Will probably document the install with photos and post them if they come out good!

i thought you were using the power antenna wire for the amp turn on, not for antenna, you can connect it and it will not harm anything.

That sounds right for the reverse wire, not sure i cannot check tho

good luck on the install

Thanks (yet again)!

No, I don't have any amp (yet). That may change by the end of the day though!

Crutchfield told me to use the orange illumination lead from the car rather than the dimmer wire when I connect to the dimmer control on the Kenwood. I'm not completely convinced of that, so I may have to wait to solder that connection. I will keep you posted how it goes.

Ah, OK. Makes sense they would use their own wire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks very much for the information. I'm not sure what brand amp I will get--I used to be a SoundStream and Kicker fan--but I'll keep both wires handy depending on what type of unit I go with!

Yeah bummer. I noticed they got into head units now too. I forget the exact model I had, but I had a 4-channel that rocked. WAY under rated power too. People not familiar with Soundstream would tell me I needed more power... then I would turn it on >//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
