When i think of subwoofer level on most decks it's usually something like -10 to +10 or -10 to +15. Well my DDX771's sub level setting is -50 to +10dB. I am really trying to find out its max signal level and if it clips and at what level if the unit clips because -50 and +10 being max it seems 0db is what I should be setting my gains with and anything above that the signal could be clipping.
I say this because after reading what others suggest for example, set at +7 if max is +10 and the like. But why does this unit start at such a high negative number -50? Today I tried using +6, amp gains are now a tad bit higher (25%) @ 50v (1280watt/2ohm). Sounds much more powerful sounding the way it should be. A lot "deeper" bass that's for sure. Before I set at max +10 sub level and it sounded kinda dirty.
I know the way to find out is with the right equipment and possibly looking for voltage differences at different sub levels but maybe someone knows the optimum setting for this model? I'm afraid to call Kenwood to get a generic answer from the Indians. Maybe I will get more power from the amps with a flat setting 0db? Probably not shid.
