Kenwood DDX418 Bluetooth dropping

I currently have a Kenwood DDX418 Headunit installed in my 01 VW Jetta. It came with the KS-UBT1 bluetooth adapter already installed.

I have been trying for over a year to get a reliable bluetooth connection out of this thing, with hardly any luck.

I could care less about the phone side of things, I just want to be able to stream my music through bluetooth, which it will do, for short periods of time.

Essentially whats happening is my phone will connect, it will stream pandora just fine for a few minutes, then the radio freezes, drops the connection, hangs around for a bit, then reconnects.

I have tried moving the receiver closer, and further away from the phone, I tried another receiver with the same part number from my other good working radio. (JVC single din, bluetooth works perfect with this unit, with both adapters)

I have tried the following phones with the same results:

Samsung Galaxy S3 (stock, rooted, all different roms)

Motorola Razr HD

Motorola Razr M

iPhone 5 - this one actually worked surprisingly, but other iphones/ipods do not.

I know the adapters are good, as i've tried them in other radios.

There are no software updates available for this radio that I can find.

Can anyone here help me? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thank you very much.

I am having the same problem.

It has become especially worse since the Kit Kat upgrade (version 4.4.2) from Verizon/Samsung.

The worst offenders are Google Maps, Pandora, Slacker radio, and the telephone - but everything bluetooth with drop eventually no matter what app or feature I'm using.

I just recently got my Galaxy S3 replaced for a new Galaxy S3 (for a different issue) and that did not make a difference. I have also tried the app "Bluetooth KeepAlive" in the Google Play store and that did not help either.

I have also factory reset the phone and did not update any app or change any settings, paired it with my Kenwood DDX418 and checked Slacker Radio, etc to see if the bluetooth would drop and it did. So it is not an app or setting interfering with the bluetooth.

I talked to Kenwood several weeks ago, and they do not have any firmware upgrades available for the 418 and don't have any in the works. I told them that I work in Information Technology and would be more than happy to help troubleshoot with them. My girlfriend has an iPhone 5S and the bluetooth works flawlessly.

I am planning on getting a Galaxy Note 4 and if it has the same bluetooth HELL than I am going to sell my Kenwood on ebay and get the latest and greatest Pioneer double DIN unit.
