I am throwing both of these 12's into a ported box in the trunk of my '04 325i. I currently have this amp:

KAC-X810D Class D Mono Power Amplifier

Maximum Output Power: 1600 Watts x 1

Power Output at 2 Ohms, at 12V (1kHz, 0.5% THD): 600 Watts x 1

Power Output at 2 Ohms, at 14.4V (1kHz, 0.5% THD): 800 Watts x 1

Power Output at 4 Ohms, at 12V (20Hz-20kHz, 0.05% THD): 300 Watts x 1

Power Output at 4 Ohms, at 14.4V (20Hz-20kHz, 0.05% THD): 400 Watts x 1

Now...I don't know what the 1600 watts X 1 means, because it doesn't seem possible to achieve this. Are they talking about a 1 ohm load? The fact that 1 ohm is not listed makes me assume that this amp isn't 1 ohm stable...correct? The reason I ask is because I currently have two audiobahn subs wired down to 1 ohm at the amp level and I've blown and replaced a couple of fuses on my amp.

Would this amp be suitable for the 2 12" IDMAX's? If so, how should i wire the subs? (4 ohm, 1 ohm)?

I was thinking about getting the Elemental Designs Nine.1 amp that is one ohm stable and puts out 1200 watts @ 1 ohm....actual power would be much more because it is underrated, so I would probably be giving each IDMAX 700 watts. Would this be more suitable? Would I notice a big difference?

yes the nine.1 will be nuts.....and if u wanna sell them subs ill take em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

the 1600 watts is the maximum output, not the RMS. The other specs are RMS numbers. Thats not the right amp for the Idmaxes. It would probably sound ok, but not give you the output you are looking for.

Which subs? The audiobahns (cuz I'm keeping the IDMAX's...lol). Jk, I know you were probably talking about the max's, but it took me forever to find em.

Should i get two nine.1's, or would that just be overkill?

So...basically right now, my excelon amp is seeing a 1 ohm load....is that bad? Am I risking anything else besides blowing the (external) fuses?

Now that I look at the specs on my amp again...it seems like cr@p. I can't believe I was only giving my subs 200 watts a piece (before I wired them down to 1 ohm).

i have a single idMAX powered by a modded mtx1501d @ 1 ohm. sounds awesome. i can power two easily if i get two 4-ohm dvc idMAXes. right now i have a single 2-ohm DVC idmax. sa-weet!

how big of a ported box for the Maxes?
what is it tuned to?
I don't know what my box is tuned to, but I got my subs last night and I couldn't wait to throw them in, so I did that right away. They sound pretty good with the excelon amp, but I know that they are no where near their potential. I'll be getting a Nine.1 this weekend unless I can get a better deal on that Kicker amp. I think that I'm probably going to need a custom box...here are the specs for the idmax:

Sealed Box: 1.30 - 1.52 cu.ft

Ported Box: 1.80 - 250 cu.ft.

Free Air Usage

Frequency Response: 10-150 Hz

RMS - 1000W

Peak Power Handling: 1800W

I'll post up the measurements for my current box when I get a chance to measure it so I can see how far off my box is from an ideal box.
