6 months ago I changed my bank over to Chase, and opened up a checking, savings, and a 6-month CD @ 3.5% APY (pretty much on par with other banks around here).

So, the CD is up next week, and I was going to renew it, until I looked at their current rates- 6 month is 1.75%, which is awful compared to other banks. Citi is at 3.5%, and a local credit union is also at 3.5%.

Now I'm going to have to go there and most likely change banks again, as I'll lose my free checking if I get rid of the CD from Chase...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

Go with your credit union, they arent in the "game" to make money so chances are they have free checking
Yeah, my g/f is with them, they're pretty good.

Only downside is there are only 1 or 2 within reasonable driving distance...whereas there are Chase's all over the place, and practically on every corner in the city.

my credit union has a deal with wells fargo so i can use all their ATMs for free.
Maybe your CU has a similar deal with another bank with tons of ATM locations.
Yeah they do...with another credit union that has like 4 locations in all of NY //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Link a CC to your checking account or do direct deposit and you will have free checking again.

Forget about the bank for investing and go with a decent investment firm. I use A.G. Edwards and have seen 7-15% over the past 26 years //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have direct deposit actually...so if I drop the CD, I should still get free checking.

I'm gonna have to look around at rates. I don't really want to throw it into anything longer then a 6 month CD, because I'm planning on investing it into something else in the near future.

You should be golden. When you close out the CD ask the teller to make sure you're still set up for free checking.

As far as the other...Its your money Broski. Good luck and invest early //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do you have any Wamu's out there?

Yeah, I think they're starting to pop up around here..
Free everything should sound nice then.

Free checks for life

Free banking for life

Free savings for life

Free ATM for life

Free everything should sound nice then.

Look into it man.

I've been with them for a decade now and I can actually walk inside and ask a question without getting billed.

TAKE THAT BANK OF AMERICA and WELLS FARGO!
