JLaudio W7

you guys kinda sparked my interest in these idmax subs, but do you really think one 12inch image would hit harder than 1 12inch w7.

now i know saying that jlaudio makes the best subs hands down would initiate some competetive conversation, thats why i said it. Does anyone have these idmax subs in their car, Rangerman,

Have you ever sat in a car that has a 12inch w7? I have and it hits louder than any other 1 sub i have heard for being a 12inch

you can't beat the sound quality either

but since you guys talk about the idmaxes so much, i decided to check them out because i already have a box that could fit 2 12's, if i went with the jl i would have to buy a new box. MY friend had 3 12inch images in his truck, i dont remember if they were idmaxes or not, either way i wasn't impressed, sorry so long but somebody talk to me that has idmaxes in their vehicle or if you have w7's in your vehicle i would like to hear what you think about them. thanks for everybody's help and opinions

Guys guys guys...he asked if you heard it, and what to build the box out of...he didn't ask what else compared to it, what was cheaper, or even what you're aunt mable thinks rattles her fake teeth the best.

I know i heard 3 w7's ported, in a burb like mine, and I could not believe how hard they hit for the extremely low power they were getting.

Those subs are about the heaviest thing you could put into an enclosure, and seeing as how you'll probably be pushing mad power, I'd go with 1" think mdf. I went with 1" mdf for my 3 diamond enclosure, and am glad i did. It's rock solid, and i was able to do the whole thing, with one solid chamber (sealed), WITH NO INTERNAL BRACING, and I have zero visible flex.

You are killing me...have I sat in a car with 1 W7...yes I have, infact there were 2 in there...SQ sucked, and SPL was not impressive...as I have stated before they lost to a pair of Shivas (YES SHIVAS) in a SPL comp..., they were installed by the SAME GREAT INSTALLER. I'm sorry all of your rap stars and basketball players use JL, but me...I'd much rather have as many W6s you can find for the price of one POS W7. Get it out of your head, you don't HAVE to have JL to be cool...you'll be cool with the loudest and clearest sub...the RE XXX.

It's all so clear to me now, thanks. Stick with what you "know" will be good, no matter the price because your lack of car audio knowledge might have gotten you in trouble otherwise.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The fact remains that people keep hearing the W7's and are amazed at how hard they hit and how clear they are. I have to give JL credit for that. I think my favorite local dealer who sells W7's put it best the other day. He wanted to know if this "Brahma" I needed a box for compared to my girl's twin L7's he had sold me earlier in the year. After I gave him a sly look and said it was closer to a W7, he answered back and said, "so its a more SERIOUS subwoofer aye." I thought that said it all. People are blown away by the W7 because its the first "serious" sub they have heard. And considering the price, most only have them in more "serious" installs. Most need to realize that the W7 only stepped up to be PART of a higher class, not in a class of its own.

I like the way you put that wesley. I do agree with you 100%. The people who sold and installed my W7s, whether by plain and simple sales tactics to sell me or just because they really think this way, really tried to convince me that the W7 was the best woofer out there right now and nothing compared to it. I am honestly not stupid enough to say, and you will never see me say, that the W7 is hands down, without question the best subwoofer money can buy now. Because I know something out there has to be better, there always and its always arguable. On the other hand I still like my woofers alot and wish my hatch would stop ratlling from them so much (heh working on plans for dynamatting) I personally bought the W7 because I personally like dealing with retail stores (I got my equipment from Tweer aka Hifi Buys) I have dealt with small car audio stores in the past and I have to say I really do not like how I have been treated at them so at a certain point in time I just said screw it, I am going to pa y to get a system that I know will be done right and I will be taken care of no matter what problems occur in the future or present. I believe I have achieved what I set out for, but I am also back over 5000 dollars in cash. . . . At any rate, I would hope no one (heh even ranger hes a hater of my JL and Xtants) can truly say, believe, and prove that the W7 (or xtants for the matter) are not exceptional and high end products, regardless of what is the best of the best and regardless of their relative hefty price tags.

A lot of JL lovers feel that way. That's why you get jumped on a bit when you defend the W7, because you look like one of those people. You also need to realize how much JL Audio itself hyped these things up. They said they were making the "God of all subwoofers." They failed, but did make a woofer that is one of the best in the world. Problem is, they still priced it like it was the best.

I would have to say the price isn't all THAT bad, though it is one of the highest out there. Off the top of my head I know that Focal and Oz Audio have subs priced up in that range.

I know where you are coming from. I bought my Precision Power amps for the same reason you bought your W7s. You wanted something you felt you could trust because of the companies reputation for quality, and was willing to pay extra for not having to "take a chance" on something else. (As a side note it came down to PPI and Phoenix Gold)

Whoa Whoa whoa... this statement is NOT true...

(heh even ranger hes a hater of my JL and Xtants)

I love JL, I feel that the W0 and W6 are two of the most innovative products in the business...I just don't like the W7...I don't like XTANT though...you definitly got that right...

Heh the thing is Ranger I am absolutely amazed by my xtant amps. The raw clean power in the mids and high is just unbelievable. It is deafening. As far as the sub amp goes, people were like you need a 1001 on each of those subs because they are so incredible. Blah to that. I have my 1001 set at 2/3 and the LFQ at 8 db and it absoulutely pounding those subs. When I turn it up it sounds like the subs are giving up way before the amp is even close to being at its peak output. I just think they are unreal. My ampbox was plexi covered but I had to remove the plexi since the 1001 was thermalling. But since I removed the plexi I have had no problems. Doesnt even get too warm in there if my seats are down. The power just amazes me, but then again I havent that much high end stuff so I dont have anything real to compare it to. I am gonna go get metered one of these days and see how that goes.

Does anyone live in michigan that has idmax subs in their vehicle????

No i don't like jl to be cool or because rappers have them????

i like them because they have a great reputation and great sound but enough said about that, you guys got me interested in having something different so please start giving examples without arguing about which is better

I am looking for high end subs that have a mix of sq and spl, preferably 2 12's

I appreciate any help

HAH I forgot to comment on the JL for rappers and to be cool. Heh I dont know about all the rest of you guys, but I definitely got my W7s because the salesman said I would be cool if I had JL. Just couldnt resist. Heh jk. As far as rappers goes I dont know about that but a funny and true story. The day after I got my amps installed, and I still had my 2 10s in a home built box, I was at the store and randomly a Atlanta Falcons player is there and like everyone at the store knows him because he has spent like 30000$ there. Anyways my salesman who also his salesman for car audio tells him to go listen to my shit. So he gets in my car and he is like 6'4", gigantic and all muscle and i was like oh god. I play my shit for him and he is like ****. Then he offers to buy my subs and box. It was crazy. I was planing on getting a professional box built like the next day so I was like ok whatever. So I sold it to him for thecost of 2 new subs and and the new box. It was pretty sweet in the end. I just hope he doesnt come hunt me down when the subs blow the box apart heh. But at any rate its pretty cool to know that a box I made is sitting in the back of a hummer owned by one of the Atlanta Falcons starting players. Just thought Id share since we were talking about cool people and the W7s. So everyone who wants to be a professional athlete when you grow up, go buy a pair of W7s right now and you'll be on your way!

As far as I know JL is not the brand of choice for rappers (Mystikal runs Solobarics, thought I'd say that for the Kicker fans). But I have spread the news about athletes and entertainers. But my experience comes from asking about it because I have 2 friends in the NFL and my other source is CRIBS, lol. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif So a limited selection at best.

I don't get car magazines, so I know nothing of the rappers that are featured in them. I know Busta Rhymes is heavy into car audio, what does he run? Master P has unlimited selection, what does he run? I have no idea, just know they were featured so I want to know. I would really like to know what someone like Lenny Kravitz or Enrique Eglesias runs. Their not super cool or anything, but I'm sure they demand a very sonically accurate sub. And I'm sure they know a little bit more than the average audiophile as to how their music is supposed to sound, they were there when it was made!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
