Getting an amp that can make it's full power at 2ohms would be the way to go. For that price you could pick something up in the classified section, or ebay.

By the way, I've given my 12w6 more than 500 watts RMS and it has been fine. I actually had it connected to my Arc Audio 1500-XXK for a while. This amp was capable of putting out a little over 1000 watts...I was very conservative with the gains though. I currently have 650 watts on tap for it.

500/1 is good for that sub. You can go a little more watts if you want. I heard some guy put a 1000/1 into a 10w6v2. I personally don't think that was a great idea but...

2 ohm usually doubles the output as long as the amp is stable at 2 ohms. Distortion is normally not a big issue with subs.

alright, bare with me....when you hook the sub to an amp that is capable of 2ohms or 4ohms, you can switch which one to be running on via the amp (dont worry im not installing this)? i understand that less ohms=more watts, but is 2ohm better? i want 500rms, so 500watts at 2ohms is fine with a 12inw6 correct. and today i took the 250/1 slash to the pawn and they offered $80 so im not sure what to do. lookin at some amps on sonic electronix, that $80 with a little cash added is all i need for a budget amp. thanks for helpin out.

Why not get a JL 500/1 and it won't matter what ohm you run? It'll give you 500W (a little more actually) no matter what impedance.

i guess price. the kenwood is on ebay new for $98 while the jl is well above that (even when used). but ya i know nothing about profile so if you can point me towards one of those two unless you know of anything in that price range with 50rms watts.
