Generally speaking though, more speaker surface area, the more you'll get. Three MTX should be louder than most JL.

seriously though which models are we comparing???? B/C if you are talking like 3 MTX thunde 9500's vs 1 12W0 then sure the MTX's will dominate! But if you mean like 3 MTX thunder 4000's vs 1 13W7 then i would say JL> We need more info

No offense, but both setups, for lack of a less politically correct term, ****. In all honesty, I'd rather keep my system stock than to put either of those in my trunk. There's much better out there for the money. Are you limited to those two setups? What's your price range? What are you looking for from the system?

The W0 is kind of a waste of money, unless you're just trying to do something unique, like win an SQ comp with a dozen or so W0's (I've seen it done.. each tuned to a different frequency, providing a rather smooth level of output throughout the bass frequencies).
