What exactly needs to be improved on the W7 to make it stand out from the crowd? Its already got some of the most impressive displacement potential on the market (and has had for YEARS), it already has a ruler flat BL curve that many newer speakers would kill to have. It already has notoriety (its been the benchmark subwoofer for YEARS).
Could JL improve it by now? Yes, Im sure they could. But to act like they aren't providing the consumer with a top-notch product is simply being disingenuous. Many manufacturers are just now catching up to what JL accomplished with the W7 years ago. Dont render it as obsolete technology just because its been around a while.

It's definitely a great woofer. Just not really ahead of its time anymore. And because it has been on the market for so long, it shouldn't be priced so friggin high. Of course, neither should the rest of the products that aren't much more than good entries in a field of equals.

How is it not ahead of its time anymore? Because you say so? Again, linear displacement the vast majority of subs out there cannot compare to, and an almost ruler flat BL curve.
So again I ask, if the W7 needs improving by now, what exactly would you change?

I am not implying the W7 is perfect, or could not be improved upon, certainly it could. But when I see people saying JL is falling behind the times because they haven't changed a speaker that is still, many years after its release date, considered the benchmark subwoofer in the industry... and make no mistake, it is the benchmark... I find it abit silly.

The W7 catches way more flack than it deserves.
