JL Owners/Listeners...

i will add this. ppl say jl is so expensive, and i agree if you buy it new. but a lot of ppl use used equipment, as a lot of pl on this site do. i have 3 12w6 and a 1000/1 a 450/4 a sealed box and all my wires for under 1500. i bought one w6 for 250 off ebay with a box. sold the box to my local audio shop for 50 bucks. so jl isnt really that much more if you look around and get a good deal.

Not too many people back the top dollar JL subs on this forum. The people that can afford to overpay for their high end woofers don't hang out on this forum much. They are out buying Grey Poupon

I have 2 12w6v2's in a sealed application... I love em! JL is over priced, but I think they hit the mark on the w6's. If you have the cash go for it. There are better deals online. If you live in Vegas you should listen to helotaxi and take a serious look at the FI-Q.
You know...I think that would definitely be the "SOUND" I'm looking for with 2 W6v2's but I am very interested in trying another brand for the amount of money I'll save. Sure I could fork out $800 for some subs but that doesn't mean I want to. Again, the soundstage of the 2 12w6's is basically what I'm after...

As far as the Fi stuff, I don't have the muscle to run 2 of anything made by them. Even their 10" SSD is 800w RMS

I am REALLY looking hard at the RE Audio SE12's and the TC-1000 12's -

The SS RL-(X) stuff I've never heard (of) much less seen, so I'm not sure about SQ - Image Dynamics is really good (or at least it used to be) but the IDQ IMO will fall well short of the rest of this stuff in output, even if SQ may be just as good or slightly better

Keep in mind I'm running 1000w RMS @ 1 ohm - Thanks for all your help so far

The SoundSplinter RL-p is built using the TC Sounds TC9 motor. I'm not sure if the RL-i uses a TC motor as well, but I know they are great little woofers. As far as the RL-p, Fi Q, SSA Icon, SI Mag, ID Max, etc. go, i suggest you just get a single 15. You'll get plenty of output without increasing box size or power consumption as much as adding another woofer. Port it, and you'll have even more output. Since you're looking for SQ, I'd just tune to the low 30s/ high 20s.

They can handle that much power, doesn't mean that you need to give them that much power. I ran my XXX (rated for 1600RMS) off less than 400 for a long time and it was about perfect.
Plus, you can always order them with different parts for lower power requirements. Ngsm13 ordered his SSDs with soft spiders and ran them at about half RMS spec IIRC.

Thanks alot guys... I think I'm going to try one of the suggested subs. I can get the RE Audio SE's here in Vegas for $190 from an authorized dealer, and the TC1000 looks good too (especially for $170) and the Fi SSD for the same price as the RE's - now I have to figure out which one of those....

im running 2 12" JL w6v2's in a custom made ported box by bjfisher and is the best sub setup ive had so far. ive owned kicker l5, l7's, audiobahn apt122t's, Image Dynamic ID12's, and heard various sealed type-r setups and love the w6's in every scenario. however, ID12's had better SQ to my ears but the w6 was only a small hair behind.

2 w6v2's in a sealed box. 10" or 12".

Okay... this might be a little late but, I would go with the W6's. Many people don't settle for JL on this site and that's understandable but I currently use it so I'm kind of biased, for now. I have one 10W6v2 in the trunk of my Honda Accord but I'm feeding it about 700 @ 2 ohms in a ported box with now signs of overpowering it. It gets pretty loud for being placed in the trunk of my car while not sacrificing SQ. I think sending them 400 watts a piece is kinda low for 2 12's or 13's but that's just my opinion. I also wouldn't suggest putting them in a sealed enclosure with that amount of power. I had my 10" put in a sealed enclosure built to JL specs on their sites when I first bought it and I wasn't satisfied. I didn't get the SPL that I was looking for and the sub sounded suffocated.

Then again, this is all my opinion.
