Ok so last night I was hanging out with one of my friends with a blazer. He used to have 3 10w3's sealed that bumped pretty nicely. He just replaced them with two 12w6v2's in a ported box (don't know the tuning) powered by a ppi amp (i think it's class a/b) and it seriously makes me hate my system. Those w6's are still very loud and accurate. Like, I know a blazer would naturally get MUCH louder than a sedan and he's ported (with less power btw), and he hasn't done any sound deadening and he has WAY less rattling than me so the result is just much better sounding bass. What'd be the first thing you guys do, sound deadening or new speakerbox...

it def coulda been that his sq is just way better than mine but still, i'm not a happy camper. what kinda results do some of you get by facing the subs toward the cabin and sealing off the trunk from the cabin? I will seriously do as much as I can to extract as much sq and spl out of my car

what makes me kinda mad too is the thought that my subs would probably sound a lot better in his car and his would sound much worse in my car than in his...

L5's aren't going to have the same transient response as W6v2's unless you pay careful attention to everything...they're not considered good "SQ subs" although most of that is in the install.

yea the thing is they get really loud still but like i dont hear the bass really...when i'm done driving my ears are just ringing... all sq subs i hear hit you in the chest and you really hear the bass not just *** ripping bass...any disagreements or comments?

now that you have heard the w6's, listen to someones Adire system...that will blow the w6's out of the water IMO. My 2 15" Tempest subs kill my friends W3's and another kids 3 10" bahns. If you're looking for SQ, Adire is the way to go mos def.

My friends got a pair of 10L7s, with 1200 watts to the pair in a burban. It hits hard as hell...comparable to my eD 15a's. I bet its the box, put them in a large ported box. They wont sound as clean as your friends w6's as a general stereotype, 2 different beasts there.

After about an hour of careful comparison I came to the conclusion that:

1. my maxima rattles a sh!tload, seriously like no other, and it's an 03

2. my subs want to be ported

his jl's have a tad more sq ported than my solos sealed, his jl's definitely have more boom. My l5's are pretty tight cuz of the sealed box but you can tell they're still definitely not sq oriented. his 800watt ppi amp doesn't put out any more power than my 900w profile. Either I have to get up off my @ss and deaden the sh!t out of my trunk and/or port the box cuz with my back seat down my his w6's aren't THAT much louder

then again he was listening to lil jon and i dont lol jp

I helped a good friend with his Maxima that had a 10W7 in a ported box. I spent over 4 hours trying to get that SOB to stop rattling. I used a good amount of dynamat but in the end I put a two by two brace underneath the rear deck that was about 2 ft long to keep the deck from flexing so much. I would do this first and go from there. His car sounds 10 times better.

ay, i find the rear deck is the biggest culprit. however some parts of the inside of the trunk (like on the sides underneath the carpeting) make quite a bit of noise too. what year was your friend's max? i've spoken to many people on the maxima.org forums and they too agree our 5th gens have a terrible case of rattlage.

If your trunk is rattling and you care mostly about SQ, try facing your enclosure to the front of the car ...
Also, what size enclosure are you using ? Is it adequately braced and properly sealed ? Feel the enclosure and see if the enclosure flexes at all ... An enclosure should not flex ...
if i faced them towards the cabin shouldnt i seal off the trunk area? My box is 3/4" MDF and doesn't flex whatsoever, it was a prefab but it's actually quite solid (and i think kicker made it). sealed completely yes, braced no (is it even necessary?) i'd like to keep them facing the trunk and just figure out whats wrong. once midterms are done i'm gonna tackle that rear deck, the noise is seriously killing me

His was a 2001. We used this foam tape with one sticky side that is used in plumbing in certain areas. We also shot expanding foam everywhere we could inside the rear deck area. On top of the rear deck there are side panels that are triangular, we took those off and put that foam tape on any edge that would rattle of touched another plastic of glass edge. The very back of rear deck on the inside of the glass where it touches the back winshield need some of that foam tape on it as well. Also when the seats are folded down that plastic piece that rests behind the seats rattled as well. Just go crazy with the foam tape and the dynamat.

hey man you know you cant stop the rattling in the 5.5 gen max. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ive given up completely. try folding the passenger seat down and compare the spl to the jl's. our maxes eat up a ton of bass too but folding down that 1 seat helps alot(and with the rattling). also try moving the box to about 10 inches form the tailights.
