JL Cleansweep reviews?

I have not seen a single well documented review about this product, so I was hoping someone could shed I little light on the subject, I know who it works and all... I just want to know if its worth it over buying a secondary HU, what differences did it exactly made... what else did you needed to add ? problems with the knob etc.

Let me know cleansweepers please

I sell them. I work for an authorized JL dealer. They do what they say they do. Some vehicles need them...some don't.

I have a Lexus IS300 That I kept the stock H/U but added a 6 channel amp and subs etc. in and it absolutely does NOT need a Cleansweep so we didnt use one.

That being said there are MANY cars that need them very much and they do exactly what they say they do. We had an Acura TSX that we replaced all the speakers in with Alpine Type R components and coaxes and added an amp. It sounded absolutely horrid. When we added the Cleansweep it sounded night and day different. It sounded like we had installed a $500 H/U in it.

We also installed one in an H3 with a stock H/U and Orion amps, Boston G5 Subs and Boston Components. It made an amazing difference as well.

The Cleansweep needs to be properly installed and set up. It isnt difficult to use but the instructions do need to be followed to a T.

The first thing is to determine if your vehicle actually needs one. Does your stock H/U have funky EQ curves or does it automatically lower the bass levels as the volume increases? If so these are a couple of reasons that a Cleansweep will benefit you. There are many other reasons I am just mentioning a couple.

Good luck in your decision.

You're better off buying an aftermarket headunit for $350 than buying the CleanSweep because the circuitry and other electronics in the new headunit will be better than what's in your stock headunit. But if you're headunit is molded/installed in the dash in such a way that it would look ugly or awkward with an aftermarket HU then I would go with the CleanSweep or just a good quality line-out converter. I have read both good and bad reviews about the CleanSweep. It does what it says, it just attempts to remove as much of the factory EQ as possible to retain an accurate and "untouched" signal. It has some DSP processors in it to do this. If you use line-out converters, you're looking at spending $100 at most and your speakers will just get any signal that the headunit sends to them. But higher quality line-out converters such as the ones made by David Navone have the ability to boost bass frequencies and increase the voltage of the signal. The DN N-645 is probably the best line out converter on the market.

It's hard to say how much it will help on your system as stock headunits differ. I personally have not heard a car that had a CleanSweep installed, it's still a pretty new product. What is lacking SQ-wise in your system right now? Because the CleanSweep or any other product like it on the market can only make the sound as good as the componentry inside the stock headunit. If it's some cheaply-made headunit then it's not going to help much. If you have a local store that sells it then I would buy it and try it, and if I didn't like it I would return it.

I noticed you're in Chicago, if that's the case then you could go to Tweeter and ask about the CleanSweep. Usually the installers there are pretty knowledgable. I think they sell the CleanSweep for $350 or so but then you could at least try it and return it if you don't like it.
