Sold JL 13tw5 needs repair

Apparently the glue melted on the coil, no burns or other damage just starting to unravel basically. to my knowledge there is no recone for this woofer (someone let me know if i'm wrong). Not sure if anyone knows how to replace the coil themselves as that is the only defect to the subwoofer. the most power the sub had ever seen was from an ed nine.1 with gain never more than 1/2

yea but not more than ~650 according to my dmm

well they dont really put out more than rated, they are just rated at 12.9 or 12.8

The amp is putting about 50VRMS A/C to the voice coil at teh speaker terminals? That's about what I worked out the maximum RMS of the woofer should see with my 13TW5 setup, which is around the 650WRMS mark.

I have to tone down my setup in summer a bit too... The temps inside my trunk get over the 130-140 degrees farenheit before I even turn the system on, and I reckon it would be pretty easy to melt the coil former's glue in that case.

The 13TW5's voice coil has it's windings right to the edge of the voice coil former, so if the woofer bottomed out it would be easy to damage the voice coils (in my opinion). This setup allows the woofer to very shallow, and still have a decent amount of excursion.

Having said that, my JL's have been pumped with 600-700WRMS for hours on end without the slightest drama at all. Is it possible it may have a flaw in the winding?
