jl 12w6v2 vs alpine 12 type r dual 4 ohm

I am going to save up some money and buy a new component to the setup. Deciding between a more powerful amp and a better quality subwoofer is harder than I thought it would be. I went up to ABT electronics a few days ago and asked the sales guy which would sound better for SQL.

An Alpine M350 hooked up to a 12w6v2 or an Alpine M1005 hooked up to a 12" type R dual 4 ohm.

He seemed very knowledgable but he could not really come up with a straight answer on the question.

I am currently running the M350 to the 12" type R and I want more bass but to still retain some SQ (that's why I am sticking with Alpine and JL). Both would be running off of stock Monsoon radio/cd and would be in a 1.25 ft^3 ported box.

I am thinking that the 12w6v2 will not bring more bass just because it is the same amp different sub. Would I be wrong in thinking that? Basically is there a clear and obvious choice. If not, why would one setup be better for what I want than the other.

Thanks.

O FOR GOD SAKE PET PEEVE ALERT MY GOD! read one of the other 120000+ threads comparing these 2 subs let alone type R vs Sub B i MEAN **** TRY THIS.............//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/search.gif.e79a63b2b580b39b282dff402646b704.gif

Yeah thanks. I already did. Nothing like I am wondering. Maybe read my entire post instead of just the thread title before responding like you did. I know that the 12w6v2 is better than type R with the same power. That wasn't quite what I was wondering. Both have pluses and minuses. I am wondering which setup would create better results for what I want.

99 percent of JL 12w6v2 references on this forum rate it higher in SPL and SQ it IS the perfect SqL sub.... i dont know of one thread that i have ever read where the type R beat out the JL 12w6v2 when there was no constraint on budget... where u are right saying that i may have over reacted (witch in my mind i didnt) u can apply some stuff like this in ure own head.... i myself found 3 threads that would more then answer your question using the almighty search button... and i did read ure entire post.... but i dont think u understand how many thousands of threads have been started about the same shit..... kindof irritating IMO and im sure many others and belive it or not some of the fun of car audio is guess work.... try it out ull like it

Dude who gives a shit about all this nonsense you are spewing.....you could have answered the dayum question 10 times while typing all that. Hey man.....just do the 12w6, I think it will give you the best mix of SPL and SQ that you desire.

for budget, TYPE-R, if you want to spend more then you have to, W6

i haven't heard a W6, but i would be hard pressed to notive a HUGE difference between the two...

but then again, i'm cheap.. i take "mediocre" setups and make them sound how i want

just my input, which means hardly anything

You already have a type-r and want more SPL, correct? Replacing the type-r with a W6v2 will not give you more SPL, and in fact may reduce your system volume.

Use the equiptment that you have and add a more powerfull amp that is 1 ohm stable. Down the road, if you have the space, add another Alpine Type-R and be happy.

I can't comment on the SQL of the type-r. But, if you like the sound of it you can add more power or more woofers (or both) to increase the volume levels.

If you want a different sounding system, buy a 12W6v2. I think that it is a very accurate sub and I would recomend it to anyone.

If you want more output bro, push that Type R!!!! Give it the juice it really starves for. You arent giving it what it can handle. 350 watts doesnt even make it move... Throw a 600-800 watt amp on that R and tell us how much of a difference you can feel. If thats not enough...

Get a 1200 watt amp and run two R's...

You arent going to tell much of a difference, if any at all, between the two in my opinion.

You have 240 something post and have already produced a pet peeve? You seem very irratable and very new. Sit down and get off of your newbie soapbox

These subs aren't even really comparable. The W6v2 is far and away the better of the 2 subs overall, but isn't quite as loud in my experience. I guess it depends on whether you want your "SQL" to be slightly SPL heavy or SQ heavy. Or just get 2 of the W6's and be happy.

1200 for two R's? A single 12 R can take 1000 watts RMS.. im goin with the two 12 R setup in a TCAB and gonna push them both off a 2000 watt rms amp

Oh an R can take this, an R can take that.... Aight, do what you KNOW it can handle based on your limited knowledge....

Well, then get a 2000 watt amp then.

Thank you!

I think I might go with the more powerful amp then since the w6v2 wont add as much spl as the amp upgrade will.

Just to get this straight, my type r 12 (dual 4 ohms) can be wired in a way which will get it to 2 ohm right? Would it be parrallel? And if so, I had a professional shop install mine setup, is there a way for me to figure out if they wired it to 4 ohm or 2 ohm without disassembling the entire box? It is a q-logic 12" 1.25 ft^3.

One last thing, is there any benefit to having 4 ohm vs 2 ohm besides the fact that subs recieve more power at 2 ohm?

Thanks.
