They are great subs in every aspect.....except price. If you are loaded and can afford it without it being a problem, then go for it....but if you're a little bit strapped for cash, there are other subs out there for less that are just as good as the W7, like the Brahma or XXX (although this can be debatable depending upon who you talk to). I've never had the pleasure of hearing a XXX, but the Brahma I heard matched the W7 pound for pound

yes the Jl w7 is a wonderful sub..The sheer sturcuture and design of this driver is one that has really not been met by most manufactors..JL took there time and MONEY into researching this sub...The sub can offer great SQ and SPL performances offering one HELL of a SQL sub..The only limitaions of this sub is its PRICE...I have delt with other drivers in the past and to be honest, there are many other drivers out on the market that can deliever the same and or MORE than the w7 does..So just to let you know you can find drivers that are just as good of quality and SQ and can get louder for a lesser price..Heres a list of some drivers that can probably do this:
Elemental Designs A-series
Resonant Engineering-XXX series
Resonant Engineering HC series
Kicker solo-baric l7's
Adire audio-BRAHMA
Shocker Audio-Super/Shocker III
The list goes on and on..Those are just a few woofers that can deliever the same or MORE than the w7 and can be found for a cheaper price...But if u have enough money..Go for the w7..I have heard all these woofers and I wold probably give consideration more-so towards a few of the ones that I listed..but the JL audio w7 is a great woofer.. and if u are mind-set on getting it...GO FOR IT!!

Have you heard the A-series yet? I've heard that only 4-5 people have actually heard it...what about the SP? And you left out one sub which definitely belongs on this list IMO...the IDMAX...
I have heard Brahma's, XXX and W7 (btw I own a w7) -- spl no doubt goes to the XXX, but the W7 definitley over takes it in sq -- as for the brahma, I THINK it is a great deal, but feel then it is just a touch below the w7 in both sq and spl, the question is, is that touch worth a few hundred buck difference? I think so, but i know many people are happy with adire's products as well.

Have you heard every sub that you've listed? You think a Shocker III can better the JL in SQ? Or the XXX or HC? Why don't you formulate your opinion on subwoofer's you've actually heard in car.

Ok, I have the JL 12W7.
I've heard IDMAX, Rockford Fosgate, JL Audio, Kicker, and a couple others I can't recall offhand.
I paid $750 for the 12W7, and I think it's worth $500, if you can get it for that. The SQ is definately better than what I've heard elsewhere (though I grant you I haven't heard a Brahma, ED or XXX). It is quite powerful and does need a fair bit of power if you want to hit high SPL numbers, though for pure SQ, not a lot of power is needed. It could probably take 2000W all day long without breaking a sweat, because it's heavily over-engineered, and just plain tough. If you have the money, I'd say go for it.
Oh, and slightly off-topic - I think everybody who states an opinion on a subwoofer should list those that they've actually heard in-car before they start saying what is better. This will help eliminate posts that list subs that are "better" or "equal" when the person making those claims hasn't even heard them. I'm not saying this in response to any specific post(s), just a trend I've noticed lately.

yes I have heard all of these subswoofers in a car..I mainly put those subs on there for SPL..I dont really care that much for SQ...And no those subs wouldnt hold up much to the w7 SQ wise..But have decent SQ..maybe not so much the Shockers...And I only put a few subs on there..I didnt feel like typing all of them...Why are u jumping on my back cause of what I wrote????? if u have a problem with it..TAKE IT TO THE FLAMING FORUMN!!

By the way I am friends With Dustin(rangerman) and a few other guys that compete, etc etc..So yes I have heard most of all of these woofers...I wouldnt have put them up there if I havent! So stop accusing me of not hearing them!!! I was just trying to help, and by doing so I get critisized!!
