It has come to my attention that some do not recognize the goodness that is a Chicago style italian beef sandwich.

I actually heard a guy from IN at the local joint asking the girl what an italian beef is?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

They come sweet or hot, wet or dry.

You usually have 3-5 choices in a 2 square mile radius to purchase one

a 2 mile radius (example... leave your place and walk two miles in any direction...) is 12.5 sq mile area, or a 2 sq mile area youre in is anywhere within 8/10ths of a mile from you

my mistake..... but yeah, about a half mile in any direction you choose.

hell, I have 4 places within a 5 minute walking distance.

 
It's pretty much italian seasoned roast beef, served on french bread(garlic also), dipped in juice and topped with hot jardiniere or sweet peppers.

French dip on steroids for the most part

sounds like our situation but with pizza/wing places and bars. city is roughly 20 blocks long... including everything one block either side of the main road, 20 blocks long, i think theres around 25 bars alone

 
My aunt makes the best Italian beef in all of Illinois, IMO. She lives in Springfield, and makes hers with prime rib meat, fresh rosemary, oregano, parsley, basil, and thyme, roasts it for like 8 hours, then uses the juices that drip off of it to make a sweet/spicy sauce for it. It's got garlic, red wine, and something else that I can't remember in it. It's the most frackin amazing stuff ever. Served on a baguette or sourdough, oh good God, I'd get fatter than I already am if I lived with her. I've had several of them from different places across Illinois, however names of the restaurants escape me. Any that you suggest, might remind me.
