is this off or on axis?

On axis isn't always ideal and may sound very harsh in some cases. You should aim the tweeters until they sound nice to you. In my old setup, the tweeters sounded best down low and aiming towards the other door. It mellowed them out and got rid of the annoying sibilance around 4khz.

Immacomputer is right, evironment (reflective surfaces etc) plays a big role in it. And to add to the complexity of the answer, not all tweeters are designed to perform best on-axis, as logic would dictate. My Adire Koda tweets, for example, work best off-axis.

To help remember what the term means, on and off axis refer to the axis of the voice coil. Imagine the voice coil pointing out into space as a beam, that's the speaker's axis point, which ever way it may be aiming at the time. So any listening position that does not aim the speaker's vc straight at you, is 'off axis'.

thanks everybody.

contrary to how it looks in the pics i was able to get them pretty much on-axis with the help of the angling feature that my tweeters have. i used a laser pointer to see where they are aiming and did my best at aiming them at my headrest. i'm going to listen to it like it is for a lil while and see how i like it, i already noticed a nice boost in the upper frequency range, just not sure if i like it like that yet.

we will see.
