is this normal?

alright so since my car is gonna be at the shop for another good month i went over and took out my subs, amp and deka. currently have it setup in my room for the time being, figured i'd put it to good use. anyways, when the deka is fully charged it holds 12.9v, no problem there. but when i hookup my amp and turn it on, without even playing music, my voltage drops down to like 11.4v. is it cause im running at a 1 ohm load, or whats the deal?

for the time being i have a battery charger hooked up to the deka as well doing a 2A trickle charge, which brings my voltage up to around 13.3v. its proven to be a working solution but idk if im just making a situation worse by adding it in.

Battery is close to dead if it does that with minimal amperage draw.

That's not normal. Man I can play one mine with a good lil draw and only drop down to 12.4 or so. The amp doesn't draw that much just when you turn it on. That might mean your battery can't handle a load, which = bad battery.

I haven't had experience with this, but I've heard they can still rest high while being pretty much dead.

luckily i only paid like $40 for this locally, this blows...

Yep your battery is dying... I just had this same thing happen an my car, battery cables disconnected it was resting at 12.6 and when hooked up it would drop to low 11's. Got a new battery and no more issues.

Unless your amp has a problem and is drawing excessive current while idling there is no way the battery should be that low. Could have a bad cell

sounds like battery is getting weak, how old is it? try running it through a good discharge cycle and trickle charge it back? dont bottom out the voltage though..

Weak battery, get two new batteries one in the front and one in the back and your voltage should stay relatively stable then.
