a poster in another forum had said this. just wanna ask what you guys think over here thanks!

"The JL / amps are VERY HEAVILY regulated power supplies, so I highly doubt they do much more then 550 at 4 ohm, and it'll lose power into a lower load while drawing more current. That's why I asked why you were underpowering them. The only "underrated" JL amps are the e series, as they are rated @ 12 volts. The / series are rated between 11-14.5 volts and between 1 and 4 ohm. RIPS is a good system and all, but it's more for the idiots out there than the bassheads. "

is he accurate ?

Saying they are "for idiots" could not be more wrong. They are VERSATILE which is nice if you ever change speakers or add speakers.

I have seen third party testing on the 500/1 reveal that they output between 550-600 watts under varying impedences and voltages within their operating specs.

Whether or not they are for the bassheads is up for debate. You can certainly find higher powered amps for less money than the JL slash series.

^^^ agreed i dont think they are really anything special myself. ive heard better and dont really like regulated amps as much myself.. again imo
