is this clipping?

during the middle of the song the music just cuts out briefly. it comes back on right away but it's the whole system as in speakers and sub. i was thinking i might be clipping but the sub isn't the only thing that cuts out so i'm not really sure. could it be my headunit or would the amp affect my whole system even though it's only powering the sub?

it's your head unit... either its skipping, or you have a loose ground, or possibly a short somewhere.... check all of your wiring

Does this happen during bass heavy parts of a song, when you hit a bump, or just randomly?

just randomly i think. i turned the bass down and it still happens so i'm assuming it's probably my headunit. my dad decided it'd be a good idea to spill coffee on it like 2 weeks ago so maybe that could've caused it but it hasn't had any problems until now

Try uninstalling it, checking all the connections and ground and then reinstalling it.

i'm not really sure what you mean but it just sounds normal i think it doesn't make any different type of noises

i feel like i could be frying my amp though. there's a huge difference when i set the gains just a little bit lower than normal it gets way less loud i don't know if that has anything to do with an amp being bad though

go to walmart or raidoshack and get dmm (20 bucks). It may not be inertly accurate but it will get the job done. You need your amp set to your headunit voltage. We have many threads on this look it up

i set them by ear because i don't have anything to measure it from. it might be clipping but i can't tell really

I would imagine this is atleast part of the problem. Liquid and electronics don't mix well. Especially the acid in coffee. You won't always have problems right away but I'm willing to be the acid has corroded something in the HU.

well i decided to pay more attention to it today and it seemed like it cut out when i turned the subwoofer level up. i didn't really listen to it with the sub level down though. the amp was also getting pretty hott it's a kicker dx1000 at 2 ohms but would that cause my whole system to skip too? i thought it would only cause the sub to do that
