Hey guys, I'm about to upgrade my car audio system and I need some advice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm VERY NEW to the whole car audio scene, just upgraded my stereo head to a Sony CDX-GT81UW (if that matters at all), and I'm feeling very limited by my 2006 Toyota Corolla factory system.

Is this CircuitCity system worth $733? If not, where is the best place to upgrade my car audio?

Polk PLKDB651 - $100 (I believe the price in-store was for 2 of these)

Polk PLKDB691 - $150 priced in store (again for 2 I believe)

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=174707&WT.mc_n=4&WT.mc_t=U&cm_ven=COMPARISON%20SHOPPING&cm_cat=GOOGLE&cm_pla=DATAFEED-%3EPRODUCTS&cm_ite=1%20PRODUCT&cm_keycode=4

Sony Subwoofer SONXSL120B5D - Priced at $150 in store

Amp SONXM1252GTR - Priced at $100 in store

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/Search.do?c=1&searchType=user&keyword=1252gtr&searchSection=All&go.x=0&go.y=0

"Mono & 2 Channel AMP install" = $61

"4 Speakers install" = $82

"Style and Perf 30 Min" = $28

10GA Amp Kit w/RCA = $31

Sub Total: $702

Tax: $31

Total: $733

Thanks!

If you are looking at an entry level factory upgade, it isn't that bad at all. You should notice a huge difference in output and clarity. I wouldn't expect the world from it though.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif...you can have ALOT more bang for your bucks than sony. Also, I wouldnt let circuit city work on ANYTHING of mine.

Search the forum for some better quality stuff than Sony and install it yourself, or go to a local shop and have them install the stuff for you.

just my $.02

If all you are wanting is just a little more thump than factory, then I will agree with what he has just said

I don't know if it's worth $733 because I don't run stuff from Circuit City. However for that amount of money, I'm sure you could find great equipment on here for less if not equal to the money you'd spend at CC. You could have a lot of nice things for $733 on here even if it's used. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Have you not seen the thread where a CC completely ruined a brand new civic? No thank you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My opinion was operating under the assumption the OP doesn't have the time. tools, or experience to install it alone. Just to clarify, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

for the amount of stuff you want done, the price isn't bad. Only thing is the quality of the sony gear isn't the greatest (neither is a 10ga. wiring kit). I am pretty sure a shop that specifically handles car audio will suit you better. Better brands, better knowledge, and better pricing

what's that in bold?

I wouldn't spend money on the back speakers. IF you power from the HU get co-ax, if you get a 2-ch amp for the front speakers, consider components.

I'd also be weary of the install. CC one time just screwed the speakers I bought into the sheet metal w/o baffling them and they sounded worse than stock.

style and perfection

I would get Infinity Kappa components, sub, rear fill (if you want) and a hifonics 5 channel amp.

I think I paid like

~800 bucks for it all and I installed it in my girlfriends car, sounds great for the $$$.

PLUG: I'm also selling a set of p6.2 components for the same 100 bucks, but they will sound 10X better than the polk gear. Look for used deals to save some $$$.

Thanks for the advice. While I agree this system looks much better, the installation looks waaay over my head! If I ordered my system online, how hard would it be to install everything? I had a HELL of a time taking out my factory stereo head and installing an aftermarket one...would it be more difficult than that?

the CC guys won't do the install unless you buy from them???

I started out doing this in my corolla when I was a newbie //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif couple years later, here I am doing all my own stuff. It's not really too hard installing everything. Just do a little research.
