This box is made with 5/8 MDF and has the perfect recomended volume per chamber for my subs. Therefore, its the best sealed box i can get for my subs, right? the only thing is that it says the dimensions are 12H x 28W x 12TD x 17-3/4BD and i wonder how 12" subs will fit into a 12" height. Or will they still fit because its slanted so the height iisnt completely correct?

thats what i dont understand tho... why exactly would a custom box be better than a prefab box w/ the same volume and similar materials? from what ive read the volume is the most important part so if you find a prefab that matches the recomended volume for your subs isnt it just as good as a custom with that same volume?

Volume isn't everything. If you built a box out of cardboard that had the correct volume, that wouldn't make a very good enclousure, would it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You want something that's sturdy enough to be acoustically "dead"...so it doesn't resonate. 5/8" MDF, without bracing, isn't sufficient for most uses. Go with a box that actually has 3/4" instead.

There is alot of difference on HOW it is built, first of all the box you are looking at is 5/8", I didnt even think anyone used that anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif . I have always used 3/4" which is what I think everyone else uses //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .

that thing is cheesy as hell, just build your own sealed box- it's a basic cube, and the only tools you would have to have is a drill, jigsaw, and screwdriver- other power tools would make things faster but not needed. Use 3/4 particleboard- I like the high density stuff.

alright, well i can find a 3/4" MDF box on ebay for about the same price. the only difference is 1.2 cu. ft. per chamber. my recomended is 1.25 (i said 1.3 was perfect because w/ speaker displacement it would be close)... will this be good then?

I guess you are set on buy a prefab. If you are just buy something that is 3/4". Prefab boxes are not built as well as far as the seals go. I had a friend who bought a prefab because he did not want to wait for me to build one for him. After he took it out of his car, took the subs out of the box and set the box down it literally creeked at all the seals, it felt like the whole box flexed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif .
