is there a deck out there that plays mp3s from DVD-Rs ???

to the guy axin me why i wanted a dvd deck that plays mp3s off dvdr, its because i have a very large mp3 collection, and cds dont hold enough albums for me i dont want to have 100s of cds of mp3s, i'd rather have them all on dvd it holds way more album, i have tons of albums i want to burn and i want to know if there is a deck that plays dvd-r mp3s so i can burn my albums on dvd or should i just burn my albums onto a cd-r, so i'm kinda stuck right now inbetween, but that pioneer deck says it plays them so i dont know.......

I'm not trying to be mean here or anything but doesn't it seem a tad lazy to justify the need for mp3 on dvd? I mean yes I see the point, you could store so many songs. But whats so hard about burning tons to cd's? Just keep a few of them in your car (cd's that is)? Again this isn't intended as a kick or anything, i'm curious to your motives? Are you planning on running at some seriously high bit rate or something? Or are you trying to just squeeze as many songs as you can onto a dvd?
I agree with some of the other posts that a cheap laptop would do the trick. If not that, look into car pc's. Aurora? I think thats one of the names of an in car pc. You could store whatever you wanted then (80gigs ect).

you have to admit it'd be nice to have everysong off of everyCD you own and everysong on your comp on 1 CD.

well that pioneer deck says it plays them, someone should e-mail that website and ax them if it really duz play dvd-rs with mp3s

Hello!

Thanks for your e-mail, and for shopping the Crutchfield web site.

I will be happy to help with your question on the Pioneer DVH-P5000MP. Unfortunately, the Pioneer is only capable of reading MP3 files off of the CDR or CDR/W discs. It can play the DVD-R discs, but cannot read MP3 information from that type of discs. You can find more information on the Pioneer radio here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=130dvhp500

something that should be mentioned first is that DATA files on a DVD-R (not movie files) usually will not read on anything other than a computer based system. -R disks are only designed to hold movie files even though they will hold others, so just because a player will play -R disks doesn't mean that it will read .mp3 files off of it.

i think the only way you will know for sure is if you try it out in stores.

also, fyi, all -R and -RW disks are readable by any dvd player, it is the format that the dvd forum uses as standard.

True, the iPod is a fantastic option. 20gb is more than a DVD, and you get a nifty navigator interface, and you can take it with you - so it won't get stolen.

Beyond that, there are decks with hard-drives.
