Is my friend an idiot?

Da Ice Man Cometh...
I've been friends with this one guy for about 12 years and I recently just got into car audio, yet he claims to have been doing it for years and knows so much. Well, here's the thing...

I recently bought a HiFonics BXi1606D 1600watt RMS amp to run 4 subs that are rated 400rms each. I told him about it and he said HiFonics are "pawn shop" amps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif I've read reviews on that amp and they're all pretty much in high praise of it, not the best, but solid. He said he only trusts Kenwood amps...this is also the same guy that said I couldn't hook up my new HU b/c I didn't have the right wiring harness. He drove me around to every audio shop and auto place in the area and about 3 hours later we couldn't find the right one (he was looking for one that said "Mach Audio" b/c my factory system uses that). Later than night I hooked up with some other guys and they spliced it into my existing wires in about 20-30 minutes...

Also, I told him I plan on running the 4 subs in two separate boxes, 2 duals facing eachother. According to him they will cancel eachother out. So my big question is...does my friend know wtf he's talkin about or does he just spout stuff outta his *** to sound like he knows $#!t?

Reversing phase one one set might help out...

Check and see if you actually have a problem first //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I actually dont think he's a complete idiot

The subs facing one another, he's not really wrong could cause cancellation as they said

And as for the Mach system - I had an 04 Mustang GT with the Mach System, if you want everything to work correctly, including the factory amps - there is a certain harness you're supposed to buy IIRC

If you dont hook up that specific harness then only the front door speakers or the tweeters work, dont remember which

Thats how it was for me, anywho

I wouldnt do the 2 boxes to many chances for cancelation, one big box for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you're awful ****ing cocky for someone who's not even sure if you're wrong yourself

i don't know about that specific amp, but my bxi2006d blows donkey dick. good luck powering 4 400w rms subs with an amp that probably only puts out 1000.

putting subs in seperate boxes is almost ALWAYS a bad idea

and you're an *******

get ****ed

No one knows everything my brother . Is your car still under warranty ? Splicing oem wiring harnesses is a no no //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

using a harness is easier, but you never need one. they are just a way to connect wires. and yeah, i wouldn't recommend facing the subs, but if thats your only choice then try it out. as far as your amp, they are ok, just a tad overrated. there are definately better.

and with car audio, you are always going to run into the people that know "everything"

x2...I HATE it when people do that. It's a pain to return to stock when you sell the car and usually is more hassle than it's worth. Your friend is smarter than you think trying to find the correct harness. IDK about the cancellation, it's not like it's really going to matter a whole lot with 4 12's anyway, right?
