Is life a battle for you?

waaah cry. Why is everyone a whiny emo nowadays? **** it up and deal with problems. Seems like its cool to be depressed now. Leave depression to the people with real problems.
Try dealing with real depression or big money issues or other mental disabilities and such. Maybe everyone isn't a rich spoiled brat. Why can't people speak about their problems?

No one is speaking about "their problems" they're just saying yes life sucks. I haven't seen any user-specific issue brought up in this whole thread. There are very few things IMO that should lead to depresssion. Half of this board is in "depression" because they failed a test or their girlfriend cheated on them. You fail a test? Bright idea, study more next time. Your girlfriend cheats? Bang her friend/sister/etc, get shitty with your friends, hell even go cry to yourself in your room for a night. This whole depression is cool phase is getting old already.

And don't think I'm not sympathetic, there was a thread a week or two ago about someone who had just lost a child. That ladies and gentleman can cause depression, not cuz your ****ty 17yo g/f slept with someone else while drunk at a party

Happened to stumble on this old thread and it kind of struck a chord with me. I have no doubt rode a rollercoaster of emotion in my life and in my 25 years of existence I have learned a few things.

1. We are our own worst enemies most of the time.

2. The situation is never the same twice.

3. Sub-bullet of 2 is point of time in life as well as life circumstances can have a major effect on how you deal with things.

Do I think life is a battle for everyone. Nope. If you are rich, good looking, smart, and with a lot of friends and support I would imagine life is pretty easy. For others it is not quite the case. In most cases people know the problem and may even know what they need ot change to fix the problem. Does that mean they are capable. Maybe not. All the practice in the world and chances are I would still get stomped by Jordan in a game of one on one. It aint for lack of trying or knowing what to do, it is just not being able to overcome the situation.

Going back to this I think of two song lyrics. One is from 50 Cent who I actually despise. But he made a good point when he said "Death gotta be easy, cuz life is hard. It will leave you physically, mentally, and emotionally scarred." And for those who find it as easy as just ******* it up a lyric from Killwitch Engage who I do like, "Are we alive, or just breathing." Sometimes the life just is not there.

I am sitting at my cousins computer in Italy off of some wicked jet lag at 3am and I am no doubt going through a rather rough time in my life. So I have a little bit to say.

Depression is a psychological state of mind that does not require a specific cause. You could have what many would deem to be an excellent life, and still be severely depressed. Sure, there are definitely a large number of people who have claimed they are "suffering from depression" when the reality is they've just had a bad day, but that doesn't mean you should write off depression just because their experiences aren't detrimental enough to satisfy you.

Owen Wilson tried. Halle Berry said she was suicidal after breaking up with David Justice. Heath Ledger had quite the impressive collection of antidepressants before he died.
