I am planning on using one of Moe Lesters plans from the sticky. The problem is the plan he has that is the right volume is tuned too low for what my sub is recommended to be tuned at. So my question is how would I tune a box that is 2.15 tuned to 32hz(Moe Lesters plan) to 40hz(what is recommended for my sub). Would there be any huge disadvantage to being tuned low? I have a PPI DXC 124if that helps. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

what kinda sound you lookin for?? you dont necessarily have to use the exact plans that the manufacturer recommends. if you are just lookin for some good street bump, you will probably be happy with the 32Hz enclosure. if you are lookin for loudness with no regards for how it reproduces music, then you would go with the 40Hz. if you really want it tuned to 40Hz, you can go here, http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp. that will design an enclosure, or have someone design one for you, or......get an enclosure design program such as BassBox Pro or WinISD (free) and it will just calculate your port length. all you have to do is make the port length shorter.

Edit: looked at some PPI subs and their rec's for some subs is tuned to 45Hz!

I think I'll stick to the 32hz cause I would like more accurate bass than just slammin. On the other hand, I could just gosealed. I was just looking for options. Thanks for the helpful reply.

If your an EXTREME bass nut like me,go with the 40 hz.Mine is loud as hell and can't wait to get it metered but I do miss some of that low end bass.

i would say go ported. sure sealed is easier to build, but i think in the end, if you take some time, build your ported enclosure right, you will be happier and save a lot of time and money. you can still get good SQ with ported, just have to do it right.

I'm going to get a buddy of mine who is a carpenter to help so I think we can build a quality box. On Precision Powers website it states:

Enclosure Details

1. External dimensions calculated for 3/4" building material

2. Includes port and speaker displacement

3. Volumes given are net tuning volume

So I can just build Moe Lesters plan for 2.15 tuned at 32hz and not worry about displacements right? Thanks for all the input guys.

Ok. I was given enough wood to make my box. Plus I'm getting a carpenter to cut the wood. He may even assemble it for me. But, I have just a few more questions.

1) when rounding the port peices, which peices need to be rounded? (a simple illustration would be nice). Also, is it neccessary to us a "wedge" on the right angle of the port?

2)Do I need bracing with this box?

1. just the ends of the port walls that air will pass, need to be rounded Don't have any pics handy

The blue indicates areas to round off.Do I have it right? Missing any? The red would be the "wedge".(is it necessary?)

I dont have my amp yet, but plan on a ED Nine.1 @ 2 ohms...so around 900 watts if I remember correctly...

No matter what amp I go with, I'm shooting for ATLEAST 750 RMS to the sub.

Yep round off the blue areas. And you can put the 45's in if you want. May help the air flow a little. I usually put 45's in all the corners.
