I am not a computer wiz so maybe someone here can tell me. My moms old computer killed over. I think its the motherboard. She is wanting me to try and get some pictures and files off the hard drive. Thats if the HD is still OK. I don't have the computer yet. What I'm wondering is that if the HD is OK, is it possible to make an external HD for storage out of it. I have a power supply. I was just wondering if its possible to do so that I could transport it and use it on multiple computers. Could you make it were it hooks up by USB?

OK I got a kit and have it going but I have another problem. I have got everything off it I needed to. I want to format it but It wont let me. It keeps telling me that something something is in use. Should I have set the pin to slave?? The instructions didn't say anything about it. If I do, will it interfere with the 2nd internal drive I have, seeing that i have it set as a slave also?

Did you already delete the partition?
No I don't guess. When it comes to this part of computing, I'm an idiot. Like it says above, it was the hard drive out of my moms computer. The MB died and she needed some important documents off it. I got those files off and I just wanted to format the drive in order to just use it for storage. I have deleted a shit load of stuff off it but it still will not let me format the drive. Its pissing me off. I have to run an errand for a bit, but I'll check back later. Thanks for the help.

Wait, didnt you want to get information off of it? Formating it will remove all information from the HD.

You could have opened your case up and hooked it up where the CD drive is usually hooked up. Taken the files off of it and put them on your HD then put the ribbon cable and power back to the CD drive. Just make sure the computer is off when you do any cable swapping.
