is it possible to directly hookup an Ipod/mp3 player to an amp that's powering speakers and sub without having a headunit? I dont see the need for a headunit if you have an amp and all u listen to is your Ipod/mp3 player. it seems simple enough to do. all i need are some Y adapters for the RCA's and an RCA to 3.5mm jack wire. have anyone done this before?

its possible, that is how I test all my amps (with a power supply in my home). The preout voltage is low though so you should find something that will boost input voltage. That's about it.

i dont really need fading and equalizing. I need to do this for a friend who's headunit keep getting jack from his car. so all i need are some Y adapters and rca to 3.5 mm jack rite?

Amps, generally, do not have the crossover networks that a headunit does...with just an MP3 player you are getting no EQ, no preamp, no pre filtering...Its been done many times, but i see it as maybe a temporary fix or a diagnostic tool...Nothing i would reccomend for daily use...

i could find an amp with HP and LP filters to adjust the speakers and sub. This is for daily driving but my friend just want some music in his car, nothing serious, without his headunit getting jack. plus he have all the equipment already so he dont have to spend anything

oh yeah and the remote wire will need a switch unless you tap into the ignition somewhere else.

exactly what i told him but he say he dont want to spend much on his shitty car. and im assuming if the thief dont see a headunit, he probably wont break into the car

imma just extend the ACC wire to the trunk

They steal the amp for sure,and if he gets a cheap radio with a detach face they prob wont steal it.I have a cheap radio with a detach face sub out and all ill sell him LMK. $30 shipped.

the thief actually stole his pyle headunit. didnt even bother opening any compartments or anything.
