Silicone is used in caulks, chests, and is an electrical insulator.

Silicon is a semiconductor.

re: do some R&D:

easy enough, set your dmm to ohms and jab the probes into the dried caulk and see if it conducts.

You already have the hole started, grab a square terminal cup and a cheap jig saw and go at it.
