my friend has an alpine system with no 4 channel amp and i believe 6 by 9's in he back and 4 by 6 in the front and it sounds pretty darn good. In my car I have a jl system with 2 6 by 9s in the back and 2 4in in the front however turns out the front can hold 4 by 6's. With the 4 in right now it doesn't sound that good...yes i know 4in speakers should sound to good but their saying that I wont see a difference with 4 by 6's and i should spend more money for an amp but I would still have to notice a difference between the back and front. So in case the question got lost in there. Would I see a big enough difference in the 4 by 6 then in the 4's to not consider buying an amp

sorry didn't mean to be confusing but i was typing in anger... and i don't mean to sound like I don't know what I'm talking about but I don't so what do you mean by component yea I know I can't believe I don't know either.

If you have 4" speakers mounted in a 4x6" opening, so that there's a gap around the speaker, then that might affect the sound quality.

Otherwise, I doubt that there would be much difference between a properly installed 4" and a comparable quality 4x6" speaker.
