Is bass boost always bad?

Something over the years I never gave much thought to was using or not using bass boost.

Until I recently started participating more on this forum I learned that bass boost is evil.

So does boost always distort the signal, or only near your amps peak power?

In the E.D. video they set the gains to a good level, and then turn the boost on.

What if you turned it on, and THEN adjusted your gains to the appropriate levels?

Just curious.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i use it only when the gain has to be turned to , or near , its max. like when using a HU with low voltage output. other than that , its set to its off.

Bass boost is not always bad. I guarantee everyone on here would be complaining if the bass boost was stripped from a 2009 model HU! It depends IMO if you have a quality HU. The bass boost would probably **** on a Boss HU.

lmao it'd be one less menu item we'd have to scroll through or useless button cluttering the faceplate...

I should of been clearer, not that it makes much difference but I'm referring to the bass boost control on most amps..

What amp? It's the same thing. It depends on the amp's quality. I use the boost on my Mtx amps for subs only, and it sounds louder and hits harder. It is not a bass boost button though. It is a knob on the amp that adjust from -12 to +12db, and it has nothing to do with gain knob.

i would go as far to say it's always bad. it's not always needed. It'll help if you have a little dip in the frequency it'll boost.

Why don't they make a Bass Cut Knob?? There's an Idea for Lowertheboom.org !

well i had an old mtx mono amp that had a parametric EQ on it. they didn't label it as a parametric EQ, but it would let you boost or cut whatever frequency you wanted.

the only time it should be used would be to fill in a dip in the frequency response. unless you like that peaky sound.
