Is a Capacitor worth it?

**** u ****
2 bulbs in parallel attatched to a batt yes understand so far

now put a resistor in series with 1 bulb (higher resistance return path) still understand

now does that effect the other bulb?

esr is the resistance (equivalent series resistance)

got it?
HAHA ****, good word. I haven't heard that since 4th grade. ESR does not equal resistance. It's EQUIVALENT series resistance. I wonder why the put the term "equivalent" in there if it's just series resistance... hmmm.. DUH!!!!

HAHA so you ARE actually saying that the more amps or batts you put in a system the less the resistance? That's hilarious because if that were the case, the more shit you hooked up the better your electrical system would perform. You're a dolt.

What I'm saying, eCrack, is that attitude prevails above all and if your point is to educate people then do it like a grown up and not a tempestuous little kid. Your strategy is more likely to have people disregard everything you say, write you off as an *******, and then get you involved in big ol' flame wars where you call everyone idiots, "bishes", and *******.

You may be a smart dude, but you act like a snotty child. That's what I was trying to say in my PM, which I'd hoped would encourage you to stick around and do things more maturely, but it seems I was way off.

So stay, go, whatever. Just know that if you keep it up like you've been, no one's going to really listen to anything you have to say.

cap esr 0.01ohm if u let it it WILL pull 1000s of amps from the supplybatt esr 5Mohm it will probible pull 50A

cap discharge 1000s of amps

batt dischage maybe 200A
Cap ESR's are down below 2mOhm (.002 ohm)

Battery ESR is in the 5-10 mOhm region (NOT MOhm)

Just check out Odyssey's (and diehard platinum) specs: http://www.odysseybattery.com/battspecs.html

An ESR of 5MOhm would take 1 million of hours to recharge a completely dead 2.4ah battery (assuming 12V charge)...

Nobody listens anyways. I have explained, used analogies, etc. It's obvious that I'm telling the truth. Why would I come in here and lie? I've never lied on this forum so I have no reason to cover anything up. I can provide references to back everything I say and I have a few times so far yet people still argue and lie just like what is going on right now in this ESR discussion. Why are you ragging on me when this dolt called me a **** and is lying about esr? Rag on him.

I think the ESR argument should be handled like this... yes... we all agree that paralleling resistors/resistances drops the equivalent resistance. Having 2 bulbs in parallel shows a smaller resistance than 1 bulb, but it still requires double the power. What do you define as "load"? If you say straight resistance, yes, it is smaller. But you still have double the power (and current) requirement. Whatever source your using still has to supply double the power (or current), therefore it is loaded harder.

I'm just trying to bring a little civility to this thread //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The problem is when someone stooped down to calling names, you stooped down to that level. Once that happened, then you started to sound like a whiny *****. Sure, there are a lot of asshats on this forum, but really why go there? Just state your facts, if people call you names, why get defensive and shit?

sorry my mistake with the batt misread

and is the cap esr u stated for an electrolytic or digital cap?

batts have evolved a bit havent they im used to batts that output upto 200A, 500A short

that link u provided they can output over 1000A, 5000A short

thats good

i now see y people arnt usin caps any more if they use stuff like that

No problem on the mistype. What is a digital capacitor? A capacitor with a digital voltmeter on top? The voltmeter has nothing to do with how the cap is made up. As far as I've seen, most of the caps used for car audio are electrolytic (not talking batcaps, 10F+, hybrid supercaps, etc).

I actually use a cap (as I said way back in this thread). I use it because of price though. Similar to the cap I have, the new Lanzar's have an ESR of 1.6mOhm and can be got brand new from overstock for around $40. Probably even cheaper if you hunt around, especially used after the way people rag on them on these forums. A high end battery costs ~5x more, and for the function I want a cap is a better fit for a better price. I said it before, I use my cap for filtering the 12V line and for any very quick and very short transients. I had no issues before the cap, I have no issues now after the cap. As an EE, I just like the cleaner power line. I do not claim it adds dB's or audibly better SQ. It just helps shore up the electrical on the car.

the batts will put more load on an alt while they charge but once there charged its just trickle current into the batts

but the batts shouldent get as low if u use 2 (for same usage)

just think of a flat batt 11Vish that pulls alot of current

but if u have 2 it shouldent get as low(for the same usage) lets say 12V

each battery pulls a lot less than if they where 11V but both add up to roughly the same ish current

so yes there is a little more work but as long as they dont run flat they aid the system more then cripple it

just think on a long journey in the day on a hot day ur alt is spinnin away outputtin little current so all that potential energy is wasted

the alt is still capable of generating high current even if there is nothing using it

i have a 150A alt with 2 batts and 20 caps with 2 shunts inline with the alt and amp so i can monitor the current used by my system and workout rough wattages

and my alt doesnt normaly go above 100A so that another 50A posible avalible from my alt

You seem like a smart dude, is why. So when someone's being a dick, just be the grown up and it'll lend you a lot more credibility in the long run.

One of my degrees is political science and I've done some work in that area, so if there's one thing I know well it's debates. Even if you're right, asserting your position in a swath of name-calling and angry statements undermines it. So even if you're getting called named or people are just being stupid, ignore it. Just explain what you're trying to explain and forget all the dumb sh!t.

Besides, if you start acting like an adult, it'll spread and it'll help everything. Don't wait for the other guy to stop name-calling, you be the one. Y'herd?

car caps i have seen 1-180F have clamed to be digital caps and as i didnt know what the difference was i fitted standard electrolytics 20x33000mF 16V

also the size worred me as a 1-5F look roughly the size i would expect but the larger 10-180F it looks to small if u know what i mean

180F looks like a typical batt where i would expect it to look the same size as my sub box

More or less what he said

get a cap. just make sure it has a bunch of flashing lights and maybe some chrome flames.
