i had a regular aux audio cable running from my pioneer ub 500 head unit to my ipod and it worked fine and sounded great. today i installed the ipod interface control cable that came with the head unit and the audio qualiuty is alot clearer with sound but when the bass lines hit it makes my subs distort and bottom out really bad. with the regular aux jack this didnt happen.all eq settings are off on ipod and head unit. do i need to re adjust gains on amp? im lost....

Were you using a cable that went from the ipod headphone jack to the HU? If so, the new interface uses what is referred to as a 'line-out.' It's not amplified for headphone use and is usually much better quality than the headphone out signal. Depending on where your ipod's volume was set, the line-out could be quite a bit louder, thus, increasing the signal sent to your amps and requiring you to re adjust the gains.

so just try backing down the volume on the ipod and go from there because i dont want to re set my gains the output is perfect when using cd's

You can't back down the volume on the iPod. Since it is a line-out signal from the bottom of the iPod instead of the headphone jack, the volume on the iPod doesn't do anything. It has a set signal going out, you can't change that.

On my headunit, I can adjust individual EQ settings for each input such as radio, CD, and CD changer (my line-out input from iPod)
