iPod Drippings (or dripping on iTunes)

Didja know that iTunes makes it real easy to steal music?? Not from them, of course but through Limewire. Didn't realize til now I could just drap & drop my downloaded songs from the Limewire downloaded files window directly into my iTunes library/playlists. So open both windows, find songs thru iTunes, download them on Limewire & drag & drop 'em when they are done.

Yeah, to the super-self righteous out there, I use both iTunes and Lime... Wouldn't bother with gnutella if iTunes gave you songs at a decent (or no) compression rate. If I can't find a better copy on Lime, I will d/l through iTunes. I would MUCH rather not have to mess with Lime & the like, sucha pain in the *** to sort through the garbage on there. If they would just offer better quality downloads, like a choice of compression rates or even an "apple lossless" option. Hell, I got like $70 credit on it from gift cards. But there is a noticible difference as long as you find a good rip on Lime, so I just go where I get the best SQ. I guess if I wanted to be totally above-board about things, I could d/l the low quality version on iTunes also to "pay" for the song I am d/ling, but I guess I ain't that ethical.

Anyway, just wrote this to take a little break from my d/ling marathon.

What's the over/under on the flames I will get for this post? Right now, dozens of posters are trying to remember how to spell ghey...

uumm yea .....how long it take you to figure that out? been doing this since i first bought my ipod
Well, actually it was only my second or third time using the two programs simultaneously. Usually, if I go to Lime, I have a specific song in mind, I am not just browsing for music. Last nite, I decided to browse iTunes to try to use up the credits I have.

So previously using Lime I would later end up dragging them from the save directory into iTunes. It just surprised me that you could drag between them.

Thanks now apple will make itunes not compatible with songs not from them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif . Sheesh noobs i tell ya.

n00b, you can transfer your limewire songs INSIDE of itunes! If you enable shared libraries, it will say something like "John's Limewire songs" on the left side of itunes and you can view, play, and transfer any of the songs in your limewire download folder.

......You seriously just figured this out?

Wow.

Where did you think the files went when you downloaded them? Limewire land? If it's the right format and it's on your hard drive then you can play it anywhere.
LMAO at the flames. Yeah, I gotz a rough idea about computers and files... I built this one. Of course not all people realize that drag and drop capability is not programmed into every proggie and what your dragging inside Limewire isn't an actual file but code that points to a file. No guarantee such pointers drag & drop. You don't believe me, try to drag a song from WMP playlist onto your desktop.

And Dan, I enabled shared libraries but how do I go about specifying what directory to include in the iTunes list or does it only seek out and use other iTunes libraries?

Thanks for this cutting edge thread. This new information will surely help me and make my life complete.

Not sure. I would look for you, but I don't use limewire anymore. They might have even changed itunes so it doesn't do that anymore.
