Interpreting amp output

mental block.. with a 2 channel amp that's rms is 100w x 2 at 4 ohms, does that mean it's delivering 100 watts to each channel, assuming each channel is wired to a 4 ohm sub?

so say, two 4 ohm SVC subs would each be wired to 1 channel, and receive 100w?

Yup, you're correct op, well in your 1st part. You 1st said one 4 ohm sub per channel, then you said 2 4 ohm subs wired to one channel. If the amp is 100x 2 @ 4 ohms it means 100 watts per channel at 4 ohms.

also with two svc 4ohm subs your options are 2ohms and 8ohms and two might not work with your amp as it would see 1ohm per channel bridged and a load of 8ohms would be about 100watts total or 50w per sub.

no they would only see 50watts per sub the amp in total is 100watts divided by two my fosgate 600.2 is not a 1200watt amp it is a 300watt per channel amp and only at 2/1ohms per channel if I go 4ohms per channel the wattage drops to around 200watts per channel, easy way to remember is always divide the amps power by the number of channels there not telling you the power per channel but the total power output

All the op said was the 2 channel amp was 100X2 @ 4 ohms, that means 100 per channel at 4 ohms, how are you getting anything different?

haha ok thanks. so 100 x 2 means 100 watts to EACH channel. got it. i'm just browsing craigslist and lookin at a bunch of sites. Mono is probably what i will go with because it will only power 1 or 2 subs.

how the hell do you guys figure its going to be 100 per channel if it's 100x2 the x does not mean times that would mean my power series 600x2 and 400x2 are really 1200watts and 800watts if I run them bridged right?

That's just how RF names their amps, & you're thinking 600.2 0r 400.2, not x2 If the specs on an amp say 100x2 thats 100 times 2 (100 per channel) You are just totally wrong bro.
