Installs I'm considering in a Porsche - Help!

i wouldnt go over 1 sub.. and i agree on the dynaudio 2ways
one 8" will be plenty in those cars, but i would rather have more than less because you can always control and turn down more. you can only push a single 8" so far before it starts breaking up.

i think your buddy exaggerated about spending 15k on his escalade's sound system and 5k on his VW R32. from what youre describing, he thought dishing massive amounts of money meant having a superb system, and that's not what it's about. i wouldnt be surprised if my 800 dollar system sounds better than his 15,000 dollar system from what you're saying. he seems to be a basshead and although theres nothing wrong with that (that's his perogative), don't let his system influence. if he really did, spend 15k on that system the only lesson here is that you cant just throw high-end equipment in and expect it to be heaven-sent.. tuning is the bigger role in the end result and will be the biggest factor in the overall SQ, but im sure u know that. you seem knowledgable enough to come to your own conclusions so i'll leave u with a few pointers..

1) i prefer sticking to one sub so that means you should to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

2) dont chop up your porsche for manhood-sake

3) try to keep a factory look as possible

4) invest in some fine proccessing to really bring out your system

1) a single 8 will do fine, but two will sound better if you have something bass heavy

2) like i said before, cutting up a porsche isnt something the sane do

3) i agree, clean as possible

4) zapco DC all the way.

GAH! Took my car in... DON'T take THAT car to that shop. 'nuff said.
Sorry to hear that. I hope their work is better than their appearances and they do right by you. I, myself, have come to the conclusion that I'll need to spend the big install bucks (where install = 50% of total system cost) to get the quality and service (now and later) that this car deserves.

Well the work was the problem. I am giving them a chance to fix it though before I post my shop review. They are still waiting on a couple pieces of equipment where they ordered the wrong gear, once that stuff comes in they will be given the chance to right their wrongs. *sigh* Until then, the system sounds great... considering I have two right channels in the front (no left channel) and am having to crank up my rear speaks (and crank down my fronts) just to get something listenable.

Still though, considering the car, your reluctance to entrust it in the hands of just any old shop is very prudent indeed.

ugh, 993's are some of my fav's
Yeah, I got it a few months back and chose it over newer 911s because I feel they lack the character, the sensuousness, and tactile feedback of the 993. I'm in love.

As a side note, I was on an open stretch of road yesterday and explored the top speed just to experience it once. 162-163 mph (the speedo isn't that accurate up there). Scary and stupid, I know, but it was definitely an experience I won't soon forget. 85-90 is more enjoyable, safer, and fuel efficient. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well, I've been to the mountain top, across the oceans, etc. gaining knowledge and listening where I could. I've come to the conclusion that decent sounding equipment will take care of itself but it's the staging/imaging that remains theoretically elusive.

So, my big choice is either kick panels/passive system or stock door mounts active/bi-amped. A setup that sounds properly balanced is a Clarion DRZ-9255 (eq/ta/etc. up front and not down stream in the Zapco amps), processing the signal before it goes to that Tru 4.100 with Burr Brown op/amps actively bi-amping a set of Oz Audio Matrix Elite 180CS 6.5(7?) components in the doors. Cleanest deck, solid hi ampere amp, neutral, punchy drivers (subs will come later, if need be). Only downside is stage height will be dependant on the processing in the Clarion. There's always kicks but that's not stock looking and I'd be looking at three ways now and the price starts heading north. Plus, I heard a $$$ system with Dynes in the kicks powered by Brax Graphix. It sounded great, high stage but even at that level, I still noticed the "rainbow effect" somewhat.

Haven't heard much about the Oz separates but the few reviews have been favorable.

I'm getting closer...
