Installing Two Din Units

Hi

I have a couple of questions for the experts. I am dong my first install it's been many years.

My items are arriving now, and I just finished installing my roof top antenna.

What I would like to do is install two single din units into the double din housing below.

I have this item coming , I have never messed with Din radio installs I am an old, old SHAFT guy.

I'm confused at how this carriage works will I be mounting the chassis of my din units direct to this housing? Or will I be using those aluminum din sleeves that lock around the Din Chassis?

Can I do it either way? The company wasn't much help.

I am installing a Kenwood KVT- 512 and a Uniden BCT996 Digital Scanner.

My Vehicle is a 05 Toyota Tacoma.

Thanks!

Looking at the factory unit which is a single double din radio it is mounted and held in place by side brackets - one on each side of the radio two screws in each.

Are you saying just stack my two radios and there should be upper screw holes in these brackets for the top radio?

That would work!

I am just looking at photos that Crutchfield sent I haven't dug into my dash yet.

They may have one for your car, but a universal one will work too. Ya, install the Kit, then install the sleaves from the HU's into it. Secure them to the kit by any means nessisary. Then the kit should bolt to the dash where the old radio bolted in. Then slide the HU's into the sleaves. If you find one for your car, there will be less modifacation to it. Also you will be able to put the trim rings on with a proper fitting kit.

When you get the kit, use it like normal. But there will be metal brackets that hold the factory radio in.

Pull those off, and line up with the "T" holes on the sides of the radio. (Lot of n00bs, no CAGES needed on newer Toyotas)

Then install like normal, per Metra wiring standards.

And put everything back together.

John,

I do a lot of installs and Most if not all the double din opening dashes have a bracket on the stock radio that bolt into the dash.

Take a look at the side of your cd player, take the sleeve off, see all the apparently useless holes? Those are used to bolt into the factory brackets.

I havent had it not work yet, If it doesnt, we just make our own brackets. As far as the digital scanner, most of them ive seen have a hole in each side, so you shouldnt have a problem. If there is none, make sure it wont damage anything and make holes.

good luck
