Installing Sub and amp on pre-wired car

A few months ago i bought a 2001 Galant from a dealer, and it seems like the previous owner had a system installed, maybe just a head unit and sub and amp. There are speaker wires and such coming out into the trunk, i had to remove the fuse from the battery because the wires were still hot. My mother bought a car many years ago which came hooked up with a system. Recently the car broke down for good, so i went ahead and removed the system.

Here's what i extracted from my mothers car:

- SAS-Bazooka Bass Tubes

- Pyramid Pro Plus 200W (PB-210PX) Amplifier

- QLS 680W High Performance Amplifier (QL-6804)

So what i want to do is try and see if i can get this equipment to work with the wiring in my car, and im not sure how to go about this. So before i go and screw something up, i figured i'd ask and see what you guys have to say.

In the trunk of my car i see 4 wires, a thick red wire, a black wire which looks about identical to the red one. A thin purple wire (probably serves as the ground), and an rca cable.

I looked around the car to see where these wires are coming from. I checked under the hood and i saw the same red wire linked to a black wire which goes to a fuse socket and then to the battery. I saw another black wire connected somewhere there with the fuse or battery but it wasnt the same wire sittin in the trunk. I also pulled the cover off the head unit and saw the rca cable in the back, i didnt have a chance to make sure that its connected to the head unit, but i can verify that later. I have a stock head unit.

As you can probably tell, im really new to car stereos. I hope this all makes sense. I appreciate any help. Thanks

The RCA cable is the audio signal coming from the head unit. The thick red wire is the power to the amp. The black is the ground, it probably goes to a ground somewhere in the trunk. THe thin purple wire is the amp turn on wire. It connects to the back of the head unit to turn on the amp. Im not sure what the other wire is under the hood. I dont think it was anything to do with the amp.

Thanks, that clears things up a bit, i guess what i'm looking for is some quick instructions on where to plug in what wires. Obviously the RCA's would go into the input rear ports, after lookin at the connections on the 680W amp im not sure about the power wire and the purple wire. Here's what the amp connectors look like:

B+ REM GND R+ R- L+ L- R+ R- L+ L-

Power Input

First set of R+ R- L+ L- is for rear, second set for front, and i guess i would have to buy some speaker wires to go from the amp to the sub. what would be a decent gauge??

you will need a new head unit, or a line out converter for the stock one. so if that purple wire is really the remote wire then its probably not hooked up to anything in the car, and the rca's either

yea i had a feeling that would be the case, im gonna pull the radio today and check it out, if anything i'll look for cheap head unit on ebay or something. I've been wanting to get one with auxilary input for my ipod.

so i just got back from pulling the radio on my car, looks like i might not need a new head unit after all. the rca cable turns out to be attached to a small adapter box with 2 wire coming out of it. those two wires are attached to two wires from that large white connector with the different color wires on it. the purple wire is also attached to a wire from that large white connector.

yea i went ahead and hooked it up earlier today, worked like a charm. i hooked up the sub to the R+ and L+ connectors on the amp and it works, but what is the purpose of having R+ R- L+ L- ?
