installing pioneer cd player in 1997 toyota avalon

I just bought it on craigslist and it didnt come with a wiring harness, i bought one at pep boys and it has a connector on it that doesnt fit my wiring harness in my toyota, i want to cut the connectors off of the cd player harness and the harness comming from my car and use wiring diagrams to connect everything. There are two wiring harnesses in the dash, only one actually fits into the factory head unit, when i look at the wiring diagram for my car it has wires listed that are on the harness that doesnt fit the factory unit, why is this, i cant imagine i have to use wires from the other harness since those wires in that harness werent connected to the factory head unit, the connector on the back of the wiring harness for the pioneer unit looks pretty standard and im sure u all will say just get the appropriate harness for my car that will allow me to connect it to the pioneer unit so i dont have to wire it, but I may not be able to find it locally and I dont really want to have to spend money on one and i know that it can be wired manually.
