installing dual amp and woofer in 92 eclipse

First off I have little if any experience in car audio, I just cannot afford to pay to have it installed. My friend works at Circuit City as a car audio technician, and is hesitant to do it for me, because, well, you know about that hesitancy if you are a car audio technician for any electronics or car audio store. This means I am stuck doing it myself. Anyway on to the bloody problem then.

I have two '92 Mits Eclipses (one a parts car the other the one I drive). The parts car originally had an amp in it which was stolen, and the wires and all that stuff were torn and frayed. I am not sure which is the ground and blah blah blah, and it is hard to get under the middle console in the car to find where the wires are connected so I can disconnect them. I found the red and white cables, and all that stuff but I am not sure which of the cables in the parts car is the ground and all that stuff. There is a thinner sky blue cable going up into the console and probably connects to where the head unit was. There is another thicker red cable going up past the brake and what looks like into the engine compartment. I am hoping all the wiring is there so I don't have to go buy a new wiring kit and start all over, and plus i dont have that money anyway. The amp is a Dual XAF460. The 460 obviously implies is is 460 watts. As you can tell I know almost nothing, much less were to begin, please don't make fun of me I'm coming here for help. If anyone can help me in any way I would appreciate it.

Oh yeah the HU in my car is a Sony....but it should have a preamp so that I can connect the amp right?

ok the thick red wire going past the brake, through the fire wall to your battery is your amps main power wire. It should have an inline fuse near the battery and connect directly to your amp. The thin blue wire coming from your h.u. is the turn on/remote wire. It also connects directly to amp so it turns on/off with your stereo. Ground is usually a black wire, as thick as the power wire, going from amp to bare metal on chassis. Then run some rca cables from your h.u to the amp and hook up your speakers to the amp.

Run all wires ahead of time then installl amp. ANd remember to disconnect the - cable from your battery first.

Thanks indosia, your help is much appreciated. I have connected the ground cable, the power cable and the RCA cables and I am currently working on rerouting the speaker wires from going to the console to the amp directly. That's taking some work. Should I go bridge or stereo?

To determine how to wire your sub (bridge or stereo), you are going to have to tell us what the ohm configuration of the woofer is, i.e. is it a single voice or dual voice coil. What is the ohm configuration of the sub? i.e. 2, 4, 8. If you don't know, tell us the brand and model number of the sub and we can look it up and tell you.

the sub is a Dual XB210D, 4 ohms, im not sure about dual or single voice coil though...and the blue wire indosia said was the REM cable was part of a clip on connector to the back of the eclipse h.u.

so the sony hu i use now, can i just find any wire in the clip on connector on the back and use it as the rem? and the old RCA cables are broken, do you think I should connect them back together with crimps or buy a new rca cable?

Well I got it all hooked up and the power comes on with the HU but I'm hearing no sound from the back speakers which I am pretty sure are connected right. I saw no polarity indications or anything, so I just made sure I knew which was going to be which and stuck em on there. Only thing is, you one of you said the blue wire coming for the HU was the REM. Well it was one of many wires going to a clip on connector that plugged into the back of the HU...I'm so confused.
