Installing Amp (NEWBIE)

Okay, here's what I currently have installed in my car:

(Rear)

-Apline SPS-600 Coaxials (2-80 Watts)

(Front)

-Apline SPS-600C Components (2-80 Watts)

-Kenwood Excelon KDC X492 Head Unit (22x4 Watts)

I currently have the high pass setting on my front and rear sets set so that there is barely any bass that can be heard, the reason for this is that my speakers in the back are distorting due to the high levels of bass. As of right now I have no amplifer installed to run my speakers on. What I would like to do is use an Amplifier for my rear and front speakers and a seperate amp for a Subwoofer (Which I plan on buying later). How exactly would I go about doing this, is this possible to do? The sub I'm planning on purchasing will be a size '15, is this too large?

Yes, buy a 4 channel amp and a 4 channel wiring kit. Your head unit has RCA outputs for front and rear, you run these to the amp, and speaker wires to your speakers.

Once you get the sub amp, I would still use a HP filter on the front and rear speakers, but you can set them lower on the front, and higher on the rear.

Another reason your hearing distortion is the due to voltage drop between the head units small amp and the rear speakers over the thin wire.

If you install the speakers well, use decent wiring and an external amp they should sound better and give you more bass before distorting.

Then you add the sub, you can high pass the main 4 speakers, which will let them get louder by letting the sub do the heavy bass work and your system will sound great.
