It is a piece of Masonite boarding (The stuff peg board is made out of, without the holes) His pickup is blue, so I used a blue base coat (kinda hard to tell) then got a can of 'fleck paint"and sprayed it down to the point I thought it was good. Then finished it off with a few coats of clear.

Using fleck paint, you can spray a light to heavy coat depending on the look you want.

Thanks for all the compliments. I cant wait to get it all in and see how it sounds. I have no idea what he has gotten for the speakers in the front. Guess I will see Saturday.

Well , I got it put in yesterday. It sounded pretty good. I forgot to get pics of the dash speakers. The passenger side was a snap to put in but the drivers side was a bish. If I could have taken the windshield out it wouldn't have been bad. lol. Here are the speakers I installed. (click the pic for more info)



I didn't get a lot of pics of the install. I was more concerned with getting it put in than taking pics. I will have a few up later when I get the gumption up to upload them. I was surprised at the sound of those little dash speakers. And the subs blended quite well. You will see later when I get the pics up, but there is no interior right now. I am going to get more pics of it later when he and his dad get the rest of the interior put in.

Looks great. BTW that looks like P-Board with laminate, I've never seen MDF laminate.

may be. I know it was a PITA to work with, with that laminate shit on it.

Probably was P-Board then. MDF = cuts like butter. P-Board = Cuts like shit. Saw blades dont particually like cutting either though.

Gotta bring blood if you do it right.

The gap above the HU is not that noticeable when you are looking at it in person. It was the old style knob type and I had to try and split the difference when I cut it out. It was either leave a small gap on both sides or a huge one on the bottom.

Like I said I will get more pictures when the get the interior put back together.

Looks great mang! I like how the box turned out before the carpet was put on, but he did a nice job as well. Keep up the good work.

I didn't have any choice in the equipment. He said here it is, install it. He is a High School student with a part time job, so funds were limited for car stereo. Plus he wasn't concerned about having the best just something with a little thump.

Actually, no I didn't. The research I did before installing it, lead me to believe that cutting it out was the way it was done.
