Installers! - Do you do sidework?

Well for the first time today I let a customer hear my system because he was trying to bump in front of our bays and my manager told me to shut him up LOL. Of course after hearing it I have all these people asking me to make them boxes and stuff. Keep in mind this is when I am on the clock and at work. I have already spoken with this guy who wants me to build a box for his JL 15" W3 or something.

Do you guys do side work? I just felt weird becuase I was at work with managers everywhere with these shady dudes being like C'mon man hook me up blah blah.

I think I'm gonna build the box for the one guy with the JL since he has already called me and stuff but thats prolly it.

if working at a large company BB, CC, Tweeter etc then yes but at a small shop i would not

Hell, my sidework is being an installer/builder. Wait, can you have sidework without having real work? But I agree with 6spd, by installing on the side they could accuse you of stealing business and would probably can your *** if they found out.

If the shop you work at doesn't offer the service, then yes.

I built custom boxes a few times when I worked @ CC, b/c our location didn't offer custom boxes.

Now, normal HU installs, amps, alarms, etc... nope. We offered those services... so I told them no.

And that was my stance for people I met while working.

NOW, on the other hand... if it was a person who I was previously friends with before I started working at the shop... or I met them randomly like on campus or at a show... I'd do work for them.

I just got hired at a local shop here in my town that mainly works on high end cars. I've been installing on the side for a couple years now, No way I'm giving that up.

simple fact. you dont say shit they dont know shit. besides any extra money on the side aside from work is always a plus, and building boxes is good money for such a short amount of time to make.

Apline, Eclipse, A/D/S, McIntosh, Morel, JL, etc. I haven't started yet, just got hired saturday so I have to learn the product lines. I hope to get them to look into bringing some companies that many of us on here use //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . I think there is a review on here for them in the shop review section. its C.A.R.S. in Greenwich, CT.

UHH NO...i can get fired which isnt cool... only do it for family and i have a very large expanding family
