So inorder to try to bring new blood into the industry on our small island and establish some of the basics of good design and install, I though I might give this a try. Please read be open and give me your feedback.

I was going to have a competition where the playing field is fairly level and the design and install make the difference between winning and losing. I am thinking of having the competition set up so that once you pay your fee, you would recieve a sub/amp combo. You can do anything you want to acheive max spl, but you can only use the sub and amp supplied. It would level the playing field kinda like nascar does for racing, in nascar it is the setup and driver that makes the majority of the difference rather than the engine. Well with this it is the design and installation that makes the difference.

i was thinking of starting with a very small format, so the cost would be very minimal, no electircal up grades needed, and basically anyone with a mom or dad that has a car and a couple hundred $ could participate. my thoughs were in the lines of a low line 8 or 10" sub and a 300-500watt class D amp to match.

Thoughts

This would take lots of organization on your part. If you can get people to actually participate and not run off with your shit, I say go for it.
they would be paying cost for the product. so it would be of no real loss to me. I was considering giving a prize value of $500-$1000

I was actually thinking of doing better than that, I was considering putting together a prize package that included a couple hundred $ and product worth around another $800. the product would be of their choice to upgrade their system. I may throw in a second prize to reach out a little further and set the hook into another fan.

The issue there will be the amount of the entry fee. It would take a lot of effort to even get 5 people to do this. I like the idea, don't get me wrong. The $$ involved is just to much and even though you want to offer out cash prizes, you more then likely couldn't. You would be out(losing) money (a large amount) at every event/show you do.

in reading this it made me consider doing this as a continual class type situation but cut the prizes down and spread the prize value over 4 or 5 shows, allowing nonwinners (losers LOL) to rethink their approach and try for the money again next time, also allow new contestants in each show.
