Input Sensitivity

So I installed my total system upgrade to my 2007 audi a4 today...here's what I did.

Swapped the stock symphony radio with a pioneer avhp4200dvd

swapped the front two speakers with polk db6501 components

amped the two polks off a kenwood excellon 100x4 amp

added in Sirius (wouldn't be caught dead without it)

The sound is WORLDS apart from that stock crap that I had. The speakers and sub are now ran from the preamp out of the head unit, 4 volt, as opposed to the high/lo converter I used to have to use. The functionality of this HU is pretty sweet too, theres no lag with navigating around your ipod or anywhere else, the colors match the audi red, and theres a lot of room to mess around with the eq. Everything is pretty satisfactory and love these polk speakers. Ill be putting two more in the back when I get the cash, as well as probably adding the gps kit to the reciever as well, seeing as how tom tom is the spawn of satan and would drive you off a cliff if it could.

On the amp, it has knobs to control input sensitivity. As I understand it, the preamp outs on the HU determine the input sensitivity on the amp, correct? On my kenwood excellon, it goes from 5 down to .5. The preamp outs on my HU are 4 volt, but when I set the sensitivity to 4 on the amp, I dont like the sound as much as at 1 because its quieter and more subdued. Am I doing my gear any harm, or is it listener preference?
