Day 3:
Ok...so I'm on Day 3 of the install. I downloaded a Marilyn Manson CD on iTunes and was listening to that today on the way home. Wow! some serious bass!
The front stage is a bit bright, but that's due to the CDT Upstage kit being set on HIGH, as opposed to "LOW" that it was last month. I need to change that. I was messing around, and it's a bit more pronounced now that I'd got some serious head unit playing.
I turned up the front gains a bit, about 1/3, to keep up with the lack of voltage. I was almost at Peak volume on the Alpine to get it the same sound as my old Rockford.
I'm calling Alpine and the local shop on the processor bit we've been talking about. For the cost of the control unit, it might not be a bad idea. Found it CHEAP online! I'll see what the boys at Auto Sound and Security have to say.
I did notice another MAJOR change in the sound. The bass sounds like it's coming from up front now! Really, it's weird. I had a distinct "rear" bass sound before, you knew the subs were behind you. now? It's all right there. Not sure if it's because of the gain in midbass up front, which is extreme vs. what it was, or the unit itself?
Very nice however it works.
Oh, and I fixed the annoying offset center dial. I just turned it and it 'clicked' into place...phew, that was annoying!

I already have the H701 and the JL 300/2 front stage CDT HD/M6 US200 upstage kit with ES-01/DRT-26, JL a2150 rear stage CDT HD-62 mids and DRT-25's and JL 500/1 and ED 11kv2's (2) ported 30 hrz.
I have the CDA-9857/ 634 changer and was looking at the 9887, but I like the IDA-X001 I think I am going to buy it!!!!!!! How do you think this would sound with the above set-up, all in an 05 Mazad3?
Do the illumination blue bottons changes colors? I also want to hookup the 300BT kit for my RZR.

I can't see them winning an SQ comp without those features. Maybe SPL, though.
Nice review. It's a cool little unit, but as it's been discussed here at length a couple times, it would be better if the unit came with more features, or if Alpine would offer a higher-end unit with those features. Buuuut, it probably wouldn't sell too well, since the majority of consumers just want something cool and not all the extra "jazz" us more-passionate audio enthusiasts like.
Again, nice review. Very in depth. I'd move just the review over to the review section.

buttons can be changed red or blue, and different levels of dim for night time. I found red works well at night...blue during the day/late day. I have a red dash however, so matches nice. You should try the M6 mids, compared the HD-6, these things kick ***! And with the 300/2, they are awesome. Had a JL 300/4 running everything and well it just did not have the power to hit the M6 hard. I was missing soooo much mid bass with the D-6's.
Also thinking of switching active and possibly the CDt center stage kit!
I am really leaning toward the X001, I have the CH634 Alpine changer already, so I can stil listen to CD's and the bluetooth feature looks cool as well!

oh yhea you have an SC civic? I just got rid of my SC/NX-75 shot fully built ford focus. How do you lik the Sc on the civic and is it JAckson racings SC?
Good little write up on this fancy unit. I have always been a big Alpine fan and really pushed that brand when I worked at a local shop. Keep in mind we only carried RF, ALP, Kicker and a bunch of chepo bargain equipment. I was actually Alpine salesman of the year 2004. Seems like you paid a fair price for this unit and keep the updates coming as I wanna know all about this unit. I think I would like to pick one up. Ipod feature is a great one on that unit.

To ask the question of how the H701 performs with the IDA unit, or I guess with any analog setup instead of fiberoptic.. as this IDA unit doesn't have an optical out (non-DVD Alpine). I too would love to know how about an IDA / 701 match-up.
