I keep hearing that these are harsh

i listened to them in a local store and they didnt sound harsh, but they werent gettin the full 90W. I am goign to give them 100W RMS.

Should I get a diff pair of comps because I cant stand harsh tweets.

I've been lookin at the Phoenix Gold RSDs. Any suggestions?

The Infinitys don't want or need a lot of power. They get harsh when pushed hard. They also aren't known for good midbass performance. In a low power system where high output isn't a goal, there's nothing wrong with them. If you plan on pushing some power and cranking the volume, you won't blow the Infinitys but they will start to sound harsh, the mid will beam the tweet will break up, in short the sound will be akin to fingernails on the chalkboard. About the only set they ever made that doesn't fit this mold is the old Beta set which has been out of production for close to a decade.

couldn't have said it any better! exactly how they sound. I went from 80 watts to 150 watts rms to each and as they might be louder, they are defintely more harsh. They by no means sound better with more power. The extra power just brings out how harsh they really can be. Just like helotaxi said, give them 50 to 75rms and you can probably be happy. I was for 3 years with them. But it seemed like over time they lost some clarity and became more harsh. And then with the upgrade of power, this blaring harshness became even more of an issue.

my Kappa 60.7cs is great, I mean they are not the deepest muddiest shit out there, but running up to about 90 rms I love em. Good midbass IMO (dont know why anyone would disagree) especially since I dynamat/raamated my doors today:)... sounds SO much better and the bass is clean. Now to throw my 13tw5 in:)

I have Infinity's in one car, diamond audio hex600's in the other. The infinity's are harsher. They don't sound bad. But they do get harsh at higher volumes. That's definitely true. The DA Hex 600's though are amazingly smooth even at higher volumes. I got more out of them than I expected to be honest. You might be able to find them for around your price range, but I haven't been looking. I got mine off here for less than that.

$180 is the msot i'd like to spend

if they are rated at like 60W RMS then I could spend liek $200 on them because my amp wouldnt need to be as powerful.

I have the reference 6820cs comp set in my car. IMO, the only time it sounds harsh to me is when the crossover is set to 0dB.

Set it at -3dB and it sounds crystal clear. I also dont really get why anyone would say they lack midbass. Mine are being fed 60W rms and they are very punchy.
