Increase Bass through backseats

I have a 1995 honda civic ex with 2 JL 12" subs plus a whole audio system but what ive noticed was that when my back seats are up, the bass seems like it is at half volume. When I put the back seats down it doubles, if not triples the bass and the clarity of it. What can I do to fix this for when I have passengers in the back seat so that I still receive the same clarity and "loudness" from the subwoofers? Is there any way to put something like ports in the sides of the rear seats? Would that make it sound better? Or would it not sound better and just look like crap? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

ha i thought thats wat he meant but id like to know what type do you prefer? i just got these about 6 months ago and i can barely afford what i get as it is. I love these because im farely new at this and I just switched out two kenwoods for these two. Huge step up and im looking at replacing my crappy sony head unit with one that has pre amp outputs. Right now I installed both amps with speaker level inputs. Talk about a pain.....

unless you can fold down either the 40 or 60 split youre already starting at a disadvantage. With my seats down my setup is three times as loud. Subs are facing up to the trunk and the port is firing foward to the cabin. The box is pushed all thw way back to the rear of the trunk
