In the Midst of Another Cold War.

In the early fifties, we entered "The Cold War." A war on communism. The government and it's agencies and officers scared the life out of people by claiming there was an evil associated with communism, that it was coming to America, and that there were communists and communistic activities already going on in America. People were being scrutinized and the slightest wrong move could have you labeled a communist and arrested and interrogated. Children were taught to watch out for flashes of light, which were atomic bombs exploding on our soil. We went to war with Korea, Vietnam, and other communist countries in order to fight communism.

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, we entered another war. A war on terrorism. Our leaders are trying to convince us that terrorism is an enemy we can defeat. We are being scared into believing that terrorism is going to strike at any given moment. We are being scared into believing that Allah is going to kill Jesus and take our country to hell. We are being scared into believing that if we don't persecute the terrorists, that our country will be taken over. There are "facts" and "studies" and "evidence" that show there are already terrorists hiding out in America, planning attacks, planning revolutions. The citizens of America are being watched, and the slightest wrong move has them thrown in Guantanamo Bay, castrated, interrogated, tortured. We are going to war with countries "linked" to terrorism in an effort to fight away an enemy that has always been, and always will be.

See it.

The Cold War was against a real enemy. Joe Stalin was not our buddy after August 1945. Read about the Berlin Blockade, the Communist insurgencies in Greece and the Philippines, the faked ******* of the democratic Czech president, the Chinese Civil War which went Mao Zedong's and the Communists' way in 1949, the imposition of Communist governments upon eastern European nations, the Soviet spy rings, the amount of pro-Soviet people in the government dating back to the FDR administration, etc. etc. etc. to see what was going on in the second half of the 1940's.

Then came the first successful test of the Soviet A-bomb in 1949. North Korea invaded South Korea in June 1950. After seeing the UN forces pushed back to the Pusan perimeter, the Inchon landings turned the war in favor of the West and our forces surged to the Yalu River. China then entered the war in November, pushed us back across the 38th Parallel and McArthur's call for expanding the war to Manchuria to break the Chinese onslaught was opposed by Truman, who suspected that if we went into an even bigger war on a small peninsula in Asia, that the Red Army would surge over Western Europe since we would be so heavily committed to an Asian front.

Things looked mighty dismal and anti-Communist politicians took advantage to spread fear on our side of this mess. Joe McCarthy led the charge, witchhunts ruled the roost and a lot of innocent Americans were hurt. However we still were facing a deadly external threat in what was at the time a monolithic Communist bloc that had the world's largest nation (Russia), the world's most populous nation (China), eastern Europe, half of Korea and the Reds were about ready to claim a part of French Indochina in 1954. The Soviets had come up with the H-bomb, had some bombers and with no satellites in space and a barely functioning early warning system on our side, it appeared we could be hit like we were on December 7, 1941 but we would get hit MUCH harder.

Unlike the so-called War On Terror, which really is nothing more than a miserable occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan combined with a few Spec Ops ops in other places on the globe, the Cold War was against a large collection of nation-states with huge armies, air forces, a moderate naval capability and a thermonuclear capability. The threat was REAL.

I could write a lot more but it would be too long an essay, so I'll just summarize by saying the Cold War was against a REAL enemy (with mistakes on our side to be sure) while the War On Terror isn't really a war at all in conventional terms. It's a good bit of puffery to claim the War On Terror is a war but that's just what it is, puffery.

terrible.

First off the cold war took place in a bipolar world between the two super powers. This is not the case with the war on terrorism.

Second, there is another cold war going on right now, but its more of a tri-polar confrontation with China and a newly reestablished Russia joining forces against the US.

Thanks for your high school analysis, but you fail.

Since we can't win the war on terror, instead of fighting, lets just bend over right? In a day and age when a radical religious cult loon can hop on a plane and be here in under 24 hours, we have no threat? Really?

Being scared Allah is going to kill Jesus? Never heard that one before.

Your attempt at an insightful post has failed, due to the fact that you threw in a bunch of jargon.

Couch politicians these days...

Go over to the middle east, see the shit the men serving our country see. Stop watching CNN, then give your opinion.

Until you have experienced shit first hand, I wouldn't talk like an expert on it.
